Vero Beach (Florida) receiver Charlie Miller got his first offer about two weeks ago.??He is now close to landing his second offer.

“Iowa State has been showing me a lot of interest lately.??I think they could be very close to making an offer.??Minnesota is still my leader right now and I am close to setting my official date with them.??I know it will be sometime in December I just need to finalize everything with Coach Sawvel.”

Gopher defensive back coach Jay Sawvel used his bye week to head to central Florida.??One player Sawvel watched was Winter Park (Florida) receiver Xavier Amerson.??The 6-foot-3 receiver is still waiting to hear from the Gopher coach.

“I know that they had a coach out here and he talked to my coach about me.??Right now I am still waiting to talk to him though.??The told my coach that they like me, but they are waiting on another receiver before they offer me.??If Minnesota wants me to come up for an official visit I will be there, I am very interested in the Gophers.”

Gophers showing interest in 2013 CDH athlete
Cretin athlete James Onwaulu is already picking up a lot of interest from schools across the Big Ten, including Minnesota.

“I have been to Minnesota for a few games and I have also been down to Iowa.??Coaches from pretty much every school in the Big Ten have stopped by my school to talk to my coach about me,” he said.??“I would say right now Iowa seems the most interested, but Minnesota has been in touch with me.??I like the system that Coach Kill is putting in and I really hope that they start to show me a lot more interest.

Minnesota interested in 2013 WR
Lake Gibson (Fla.) junior receiver Eric Carter has watched his stock soar this season. Carter has already earned all-county accolades for his great junior season. Carter's play has not gone unnoticed by football programs throughout the country.

"Schools that are interested in me include NC State, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Duke, Georgia, and Minnesota," Carter said.

Jerry Kill and his staff have expressed their interest in adding speed and playmakers to the program multiple times. Carter uses his speed and playmaking ability as a receiver, punt returner and kick returner for Lake Gibson.

"Minnesota has been sending me a lot of emails and letters," said Carter. "I am trying to get out of Florida for college. Right now I would say my favorites are Alabama, Duke, Tennessee, Minnesota, and NC State."

Although Carter does not currently have any offers he knows exactly what he is looking for in a school. "Playing time, academics, and the coaching staff are the biggest factors in my recruitment," Carter stated.

Carter is a name to keep an eye on for Golden Gopher fans. The shifty playmaker has 39 receptions for 727 yards and six touchdowns to help Lake Gibson to a 7-2 record.

Charles excited about Minnesota
Hollywood Hills (Fla.) defensive tackle Jean-Marc Charles was able to catch the Minnesota/Iowa game last weekend on his phone.

"I was able to watch parts of the game on my phone," Charles said. "The last three minutes were killing me."

The three-star prospect came away impressed with what he saw.

"I watched the video of the locker room after the game and it looks like the team is really starting to come together," said Charles. "The team can achieve whatever they fight for. They are rebuilding right now but at a better place than people think."

Charles plans to take his official visit to Minnesota the weekend of November 11th when the Gophers take on Wisconsin.

"I have had a chance to check out the facilities and school online," Charles explained.?

Charles has stated all along that West Virginia and Minnesota are his favorite schools. Where does Minnesota stand now?

"If things go well on my visit, I would definitely commit," said Charles. "I would love to be a Golden Gopher."

Fruechte anxious to start
Isaac Fruechte is excited to make the big transition from Rochester Community & Technical College to the University of Minnesota.

"I am so jacked to have the opportunity to be there in January," Fruechte said. "This summer I ran routes against former Gopher Marcus Sherels. I was very thankful to have the opportunity to go against him. I feel like it made me a lot better as a player."

Fruechte is more excited than ever to be a Gopher after watching the win against Iowa.

"I was almost speechless because of how awesome the game was," explained Fruechte. "The team showed a lot of character. It was great to see them get a win."

Fruechte had the opportunity to meet Gopher commits Philip Nelson and Maxx Williams shortly after signing with the maroon and gold. He had the opportunity to meet the rest of the in-state commitments about two weeks ago.

"All the in-state guys had a meeting with Coach Kill," Fruechte said. "He explained to us some things that were going on and filled us in on his health. It was great to talk to coach and meet the rest of the guys. It made me more excited about the things that were going on (with the program)."

The 6'3, 212 pound receiver has been training at RCTC to prepare himself for the grind of the Big Ten.

Gophers looking at JUCO linebacker
The coaches at Minnesota continue to look for junior college help at many positions. One linebacker that has garnered interest is Chris Bermond. The Pearl River (Miss.) Community College linebacker has picked up heavy interest from multiple schools since the season began.

"Schools that have been talking to me are Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Minnesota, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Troy," said Bermond.

Bermond does not have any favorites right now but does have an idea of where he would like to play.

"I would really like to play in the SEC," Bermond explained. "Southern Miss has been playing well lately also so they are probably in my top group."

What about Minnesota? "I've never really been familiar with the area so I can't really say how interested I am," said Bermond. "I would love to visit. Coach Sawvel was at my school last week and said he would call me soon to discuss possibly setting up a visit."

Bermond is off to a fast start this season with 63 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble in eight games. Bermond is hoping that his fast start leads to his first offer.

"Minnesota has all my tape and they even sat down and watched some with my coach," explained Bermond. "My coach is pretty sure that they will offer."

The graduation of Gary Tinsley and uncertainty of Brendan Beal could mean the Gophers sign a junior college linebacker in this class.

Minnesota giving a Chance?
Missouri City (Tx.) Elkins wide receiver Chance Allenhas been laying down with his recruitment lately but he gives GI just a brief update on his recruiting.

"Washington, Texas A&M and Houston have been the schools talking to me a lot lately," he told GI.com "Minnesota hasn't talked to me at all lately. I'm not sure what's going on with them."

Jones still in the Mix?
Sarasota (Fla.) Booker wide receiver Ricky Jones has also been very close to the vest about his recruitment, but he found time to give GI.com an update.

"The schools recruiting hard lately are Wake Forest, Indiana, South Florida and Iowa State," Jones said. "Minnesota hasn't talked to me in months. They just haven't contacted me, but my favorites are Stanford, Wake Forest and Indiana."

Beard is a U target
Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College guard Mark Beard is a player that Minnesota has been contact with since the summer, he gives GI an update on his recruiting.

"Minnesota just contacted me yesterday," Beard said. "Minnesota just keeps telling me to keep playing hard and they don't know if they're going to offer me yet. I think Minnesota is a good program and I would for sure considering going there if they offer."

Minnesota after another at RCTC?
Rochester Community College cornerback BJ Hendrix is teammate of WSR?extraordinaire?and Gopher commit Issac Fruechte, does that mean the U is showing interest in him?

"Teams showing the most interest are UTEP, Ball State, Louisiana Monroe and Tennessee State. As far as Minnesota, I haven't heard from them as of yet, but I hope to in the future."

Minnesota giant pursued by U?
New Brighton (Minn.) Totino-Grace offensive tackle Nick Carr?is a straight out mountain of a man, but does that mean Minnesota wants him?

"Right now, I have offers from North Dakota State and Northern Iowa, but I am still talking to UMD and the U of M," he told GI.com "From Minnesota, they keep sending me e-mails saying they'd love for me to come to their games and the coaches talk to me when I go. I know that one of their coaches came to a game a few weeks back."

When asked if he'd think about walking-on. Carr responded, "I don't really know to be honest, I'd have to put some thought into it."

Minnesota trying for California Gold?
Woodland Hills (Cal.) Pierce Community College Kasseim Everett has caught the eye of many BCS programs recently, is Minnesota among them?

"I just received offers from Indiana and Kentucky a few days ago," Everett said. "Those two, along with Iowa State and Utah have offered. Minnesota was in contact a few weeks back, and I was told that they will be again soon. I'd have some interest in them if they offered."

Linebacker Position Full?...
GI was informed once again from another linebacker recruit that he was told recently that the position is now full. That has one GI writer who will remain nameless to keep believing that a certain Jersey Shore linebacker is a SV to the Gophers.

Another Marques in the fold
New Orleans (La.) O. Perry Walker defensive tackle Marques Cheeks committed a few weeks ago, but how solid is that committment?

"I'm committed to FIU, but I'm still leaving my mind open other schools," he told GI.com "I still plan on taking all my visits and my official decision won't be made until Signing Day. Minnesota is still recruiting me pretty heavily. Coach Sawvel has just been asking me how my games have been going."

"He also asked me how I feel about possibly becoming a tight end. I think I could play tight end if it came down to it, but I'd rather stay on the defensive line. They contact me every other day through Facebook and they're are definitely still in consideration."
