Actually, way overdue in my opinion. Pro football and basketball all star games have become "ho hum" events. The NBA is on TV all the time so fans can see the players most all the time. So many football players back out because of injury or other reasons. The NHL all star game is like a goal scoring fest, which I guess is ok but again, I can see most of my favorite players on TV, once a week, anyways. Baseball still makes the most sense to have an all star game but I think the players would just like a midseason break and it would benefit the game, all the better.

If its a money grab, well I think that will become counterintuitive at some point. Maybe I am just getting old and crochety, I dont know. But I think the leagues would benefit with a break more than have all these competitions that are getting less and less viewership.
