Victoria, Minn., native Sam Schlueter started the final six games of the 2017 season for the Gophers on the offensive line and is a mainstay for the Minnesota Movers this year with starts in all three victories. We caught up with the redshirt sophomore ahead of Minnesota's first road game.
Gopher Sports: Who is the strongest offensive linemen on the team?
Sam Schlueter: I would have to say Daniel Faalele.
GS: What are you doing individually to help your team out this season?
SS: Stepping up as more of a leader and helping the younger guys grow and get used to the offense. I think they are coming along really well.
GS: What are some goals you have set for yourself?
SS: I want to get stronger, bigger and I want to work on my technique.
GS: How has this team grown since last season?
SS: Overall we are really connecting. I think we are all working towards the same goal and we are doing really well with that. There are a lot of guys who are stepping up as leaders and as players.
GS: If Coach Fleck put you in at quarterback for a game, who would be your go-to teammate to throw to?
SS:Tyler Johnson.
GS: What is the best Netflix show to bingewatch?
SS: The Office. I like that show because it's funny and it kind of portrays the dynamic an office might have, or even what a team might have.
GS: How many times have you watched it all the way through?
SS: Five or six times.
GS: If you were stuck on an island and were stuck on an island and were only allowed to have three things, what would they be and why?
SS: I'd bring a fishing pole so I could catch my meal, a knife or a hatchet so I could cut some wood and build myself a shelter and I would bring clothes with as well so I could change.
GS: Who is your favorite superhero and why?
SS: Superman, he is the means the best from what I've seen in superhero movies. And I like how he acts and presents himself.
GS: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
SS: I have to wear the same clothes the night before at the hotel and walk around the field right before the game, the same amount of times. I also have to put the same stuff on at the same time.
GS: What has been your favorite class you have taken at the University of Minnesota?
SS: My most favorite was Nature in the City. I like being outdoors and it was fun to see that kind of thing.
