I am very excited about the Jarvis Thomas commitment.. I cant say I always saw it that way but I have come around to it now. I think Jarvis is in a great situation in that Curry will probably start after Murphy leaves, so Thomas has time to develop his game.. Energy guys are really important to a program and it sounds like Jarvis is that guy.
At Indiana, it is interesting for Race Thompson as well.. I think you will see that Archie Miller wants a lot of versatility in his players.. Almost all his recruits can play multiple positions.. Indiana has a little of that "recruit 6-6 to 6-8 guys that are long, and figure out where to put them after they get in the program". Clifton Moore is 6-9 but a stringbean at under 200 lbs.... You have Race at 6-8, Justin Smith at 6-6, Jerome Hunter at 6-7(2018), and Darnezi Anderson at 6-6(2018)...
Hunter is the kid that I have seen that has a TON OF UPSIDE.. I think he will start early as a SF if Smith does not prove himself a year earlier.... Race may or may not be in competition with Moore as they may see the court together..Race will have a lot of young guys around him so it will be interesting to see how they feel out their roles on the team......
Indiana is probably going to be like a Michigan in that they have to be guarded all over the floor at all 5 positions...They will cause teams that have exclusively low post players, a lot of grief because they will have to chase the person they guard, all over the floor. Shoot it and chase down the rebound and loose ball... That is the style of play that I see them bringing.
Thomas, on the other hand, will probably have more experience around him, which is very beneficial... He doesnt have to be "the man" and can work into his role at a much more comfortable pace, IMO.... I think both squads have gotten better as a result of who they recruited but I think Minnesota got the better end of the deal as far as the situation and what is needed... Go Gophers!!!
