Vic Viramontes committed to Minnesota in late November and signed a month later. As a 5.7 three-star and former Michigan commit and California enrollee, Viramontes was considered one of the top JUCO playmakers in the country this year. He’s a December grad and will participate in spring ball.

Gopher fans hope that the early reps will allow him to potentially win the starting job this fall. However, Viramontes isn’t as outright about wanting to see the field immediately. His mindset is to be the best teammate possible and the rest will fall into place.

“My mindset coming in is just following behind the older guys and buying into the program just how they all did this year,” he told The Gopher Report. “I want to get to know everyone of my teammates and get to know them on a personal level because I feel like chemistry is the main reason a team is very successful.”

Viramontes credits his Minnesota commitment largely to the relationship he built with PJ Fleck. Fleck during his Signing Day press conference said that the relationship between a head coach and quarterback is the most special relationship in sports, and gave Belichick and Brady as an example. Viramontes said the same thing in TGR’s interview with him on Saturday.

“From the first time I talked to Coach Fleck, I felt a connection right away. We are both energetic. I love the way he is a demanding coach. I love playing for coaches who are demanding. It really brings the best out of you. I think a head coach and QB’s relationship are really important, like how Brady and Belichick are together.”

Viramontes said that his official visit weekend confirmed that Minnesota is where he wanted to be and that it felt like home.

“Family means everything to me. When I step foot on campus, I know that I am going to have over 90 new teammates and brothers who are going to have my back, and I am going to have every one of their backs.”

Vic Viramontes was an MVP nominee in the 2017 TGR Recruiting Awards.
