Minnesota on top for Walker
Rancho Cucamonga, California, slot receiver Jermel Walker has speed to burn. Walker's speed caught the attention of the Minnesota staff which lead to his first scholarship offer earlier in the spring. The slot receiver talks about his interest in the University of Minnesota.

"I actually talked to Coach Sawvel yesterday. He was just checking up on me and telling me more about the school. Minnesota is still on top for me. I was going to try to visit this summer but the finances wouldn't allow for it. Minnesota will likely be my first official visit, I would love to see the campus and meet the coaches. I'm not sure when I will commit because I want to check out some other schools too."

Jermel Walker is currently ranked the 91st best receiver in the country by Rivals.

Lane wants to visit
Minnesota is still searching for at least two linebackers in the 2013 recruiting class. Ohio linebacker Jerome Lane is hoping he can have the opportunity to be one of those guys. Lane hopes to visit Minnesota in the near future.

"I am still interested in Minnesota. I have been getting a lot of emails and mail from them. I'm going to visit up there in a month or so. I'm not sure when it will be, it is going to be based off when my mom can go. I am hoping to make it to camp, but I don't know if I'm going to make that so it might just be for a visit. The coaching staff likes me at either safety or linebacker."

Lane currently holds offers from Washington and Akron.

Gophers like versatile athlete
Jerry Kill and his coaching staff have built up the reputation to take athletes that can play multiple positions and see where they fit in best later. Goose Creek (S.C.) athlete Jalen Stevens is exactly that. The Gophers like the Goose Creek athletes versatility.

"I have to call the coaching staff soon. I have been busy focusing on my team right now. I am still interested in Minnesota. I know they like me at either defensive end or possibly linebacker. Southern Miss, North Carolina, Arizona State, and Connecticut are the schools that have offered so far. I don't have any favorites."

Stevens plays on a very talented Goose Creek team that currently has 2013 athletes committed to South Carolina and Georgia.

MTSU commit still open?
Shelbyville (Tenn.) running back Marquis Morton committed to Middle Tennessee State earlier this week, but is still hearing from a number of schools. Big Ten programs like Minnesota and Purdue are showing strong interest. Could Morton be swayed from Middle Tennessee State?

"Minnesota is showing strong interest in me at the running back position. I talked to their recruiting coordinator Coach Glasscock. He said that they really like my film and they are going to be keeping in touch with me. I could see Minnesota as a place to play. I'm committed, but still looking at other schools."

The Tennessee running back currently has two scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee State and Tennessee State.

What's the latest with Warren?
Three-star Providence Academy offensive/defensive lineman Michael Warren has already been to three different camps at the University of Minnesota. Warren talks about the latest with the Golden Gophers.

"I went to the Big Man camp, the camp on the next day, and the camp the following Wednesday. I worked at defensive tackle during the Big Man camp and offensive line the other two. I really liked working with Coach Limegrover. He gave me a lot of different things that will improve myself as a player. He told me they have limited scholarships, but they are going to continuing watching me through my senior year. I plan on making a decision after my senior season is over."

The latest schools to show interest in Warren include Western Michigan, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Cornell, Brown, and Penn.

Iowa long snapper impresses
Marshalltown, Iowa, long snapper Tyler Kluver was able to impress the Gopher coaching staff at the Minnesota special teams camp. Kluver is listed as a linebacker by Rivals, but his future may be at long snapper. The Iowa native talks about his camp experience and his interest from Minnesota.

"I went to their special teams camp and won the competition portion of it. They pulled me aside and had me work with the best punter so they could evaluate me. Coach Kill told me that he really liked what he saw from me and that they would be in touch. Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, and North Texas are the schools showing the most interest in me. North Texas is the only school that is talking about offering a long snapper."

Bobbit hoping to hear back
Jesse Bobbit was one of the best performers at Minnesota's first camp in early June. The Illinois athlete has yet to hear back from the Minnesota coaching staff, but hopes to hear from them soon. Bobbit talks about his camp experience.

"It went pretty well. Once the pads came out, I believe I was somewhat of a standout at linebacker. My 40 time was not what I wanted it to be. I was training Thursday before camp and I strained my hamstring. I know there are other camps and the coaches want to review all of them, but they said they would get back to me either way. I sent Coach Phelps a message so I am hoping to hear back from them soon."

Bobbit currently has two FCS offers from North Dakota and Eastern Illinois.

Fleming looking to score Minnesota offer
East Lee County (Fla.) defensive end Sheldon Fleming picked up Minnesota interest early in the spring. The two-star defensive end is hoping to earn an offer from the maroon and gold. Fleming talks about a possible offer from Jerry Kill and his staff.

"With Minnesota, I have to get an 18 on my ACT before they will offer me. I plan on retaking the ACT when school starts back up. I have been pretty busy so I haven't called many coaches lately. If Minnesota did offer, it is something that I would look at pretty hard. There is strong interested between us. My top two schools are Minnesota and Appalachian State."

GopherIllustrated will follow Fleming's recruitment to see if he is able to earn a Minnesota offer.

South Dakota athlete high on Gopher radar
Matthew VandeBerg was able to impress the Gopher coaches at camp with his speed and athleticism. The Minnesota staff told VandeBerg that if he added ten pounds then they would offer him a scholarship. He talks about the latest with GopherIllustrated.

"Minnesota did give me a call back a little while ago. They told me that I am still very high on their radar and that they are looking forward to watching me throughout the fall. It sounds like they are going to watch me during the season and see how things go. I am very much so interested in Minnesota."

VandeBerg picked up a greyshirt offer from Iowa earlier in the week.

Spearman has top two
Illinois linebacker Reggie Spearman picked up an offer from his Illinois earlier in the week. Spearman told GopherIllustrated recently that his number one school was Minnesota. Does the Illinois offer mix things up?

"Since Illinois offered, I have a top two of Minnesota and Illinois. I talk to the Minnesota coaches all the time and we have built up a good relationship. I still plan on visiting Minnesota before I make a decision. I will be in Texas until July 8th and then try to plan something after that. I would put it at 50/50 right now between Minnesota and Illinois."

Spearman ended the phone call with a, "Go Gophers!"
