Not quite as confusing as when I was young, when the Minnesota Vikings had a wide receiver named Gene Washington from Michigan State and San Francisco 49ers had Gene Washington, who was also a wide receiver and went to Stanford..... Both All-Pro caliber wide receivers that had the same name, and played at roughly the same time. Have to admit that was followed by University of Texas who had Johnny "Ham" Jones and Johnny "Lam" Jones in their program at the same time.
Now, the Gophers will have Jornell Manns and Jonathan Mann at wide receiver...It is a possibility that they play 3 years with each other at TCF. Could be J. Manns and J. Mann as they have the same first initial... Could be Jo Manns and Jo Mann as they both have the same first 2 letters in their first name.
Just think if they both turn out great for the Gophers... The PA announcer says "Touchdown by MANNS!!" Someone that missed the play will turn to their friends and say "Was that the guy with the 's' in his last name or without??" or "Was that the tall one(Mann) or the short one(Manns) that he said scored the TD??".. Hopefully they know to ask if it is Jornell or Jonathan. Could be a "GOOD" confusion if they turn out well.
Lots of good marketing and newspaper articles ahead with catchy titles using their names, I am sure, if they both turn out to be stars.
Preseason covers on Gopher media programs will read "At Minnesota, receiving is a Mann(s) world" or possibly "Jornell or Jonathan: Who will be 'The MANN(s)' for the Gophers, this year??" Lots of possibilities there.. Just thought it was interesting with the commitment of Jonathan Mann to the program.
