If Minnesota gets leads in the non conference games with the game out of reach in the 4th quarter, do you think he plays it conservative on offense?? To me its a slight 'catch 22'. You dont want to ever embarrass your opponent by running up the score, or even trying, but the truth is that the passing game needs the practice. We need to take advantage of opportunities presented to us.

I have heard Lou Holtz say many times that it is not a concern... If the losing team seems to be upset, their players need to play better, coaches need to coach better and recruit better for the next season.. Others say in sportsmanship, dont rub their noses in the ground or it will come back and bite you in future meetings.. Different philosophies on running up the score.

Lots of factors go into it... I know with the o-line, it is easiest to get them sync'd up by running the ball.. Teams are tempted to get that run established early, which is a good thing. If they are having troubles, running it is usually the best choice, especially if you have the talent at the RB position that we have on this team.. But again, we will need to practice pass blocking against opponents. I guess I shouldn't assume we will get big enough leads but if we do, I hope we still 'open it up' a little bit with both our QBs to see how they do when they pass the ball. It is a new era and I hope that we see these preconference games as opportunities to develop the unknown that will be important down the road.
