I know the NBA teams like to draft their players young.. Like picking bananas.. Get them 'unripened' and they will mature as they go.. I still am not a fan of that philosophy as you pay out millions to young teens that you dont know will make it or not... Seems a couple years maturity is better at the college level, for 80%+ or more... That said, players like the kid from Greece that plays for Milwaukee, Simmons and Embid at Philly if Embid avoids injury, Porzingis at NY, KAT and hopefully WIggins at Minnesota. Lots of tall, athletic, long, and RAW talent in the league.. Lots of immaturity as well.
I dont know if Minnesota has stars in the making or not... I think you cant just look at production but you have to project forward.. For instance, Jordan Murphy is a beast in the college game but I think he has glaring weaknesses when projecting to the next level....Actually, in regards to our starting 5, I would put Murphy towards the bottom of guys that project well to the next level. And I love Jordan as a player!!
My opinion is that Reggie Lynch will make a NBA roster as a role player.. Reggie can block shots and is a big body... Though foul trouble at the next level could be an issue...A big body who is long, can shoot FTs Ok, definitely defends well and can rebound as well as run the floor..Better weakside defender than on the ball so I think he still has a bit of work to do on defense.
The next is Amir Coffey.. Amir can handle the ball and is 6-7+ in size.. Very long and athletic..Excellent in transtition. Can play a lot of roles. Passes well and can defend more than one position.. His shot on the outside is better but he needs to light a fire under his rear at times.. Worlds of potential. Has to work on all phases and make that next jump, IMO.
Nate Mason.. I know a lot of people dont like Nate as a pro prospect and may not think he is athletic enough but he has things that have possibilities as a backup.. When he wants to defend, he is very good at it... Could work on his shot and passing ability for sure.. I think he is a player that could surprise in a NBA camp.
Dupree McBrayer.. Great length for a guard... Another kid that could surprise at a NBA camp after leaving Minnesota... Has the size but inconsistent shooter.. Needs to make that next step and consistently play good defense and show he is solid in all facets.
Let me know if you agree or disagree with my assessments.. Always like hearing your opinions, whether you like or hate what I say.. More importantly, I would love to hear your opinions on the matter!!
