Watching the game on DVR and it finally occurred to me what is "wrong" with the offense. We've been through O-Line injuries before and still had success. Mitch is what he is, and we've still had success. The difference is what we do not have....David Cobb.
O-Line didn't get a push? Cobb found that one small crease or bounced it outside.
Defender there to make a play? Cobb would do that subtle hesitation and defender left grasping air. Or deliver that vicious stiff arm.
Third and Long? Not usually. The offense lived in manageable Third and Short.
Cobb was the dynamic that made the offense go. He made Mitch's job easier. He made the O-Line's job easier. And he made Limegrover's job easier.
This isn't me placing blame on the running backs. I think Rodney Smith has played well. Rather, this is me recognizing that David Cobb was a special player. Somebody who despite all the attention and accolades given by fans, was probably even underrated in hindsight.
