Street and Smith's magazine used to be the bible of recruiting, as far as publications on the shelf of a newsstand.... One of the great features is they had all-Metro recruits from 25 of the best recruiting big cities in the US. Later as I got into recruiting, it is what I used to find out where players played in HS, before the days where AAU became popular... I have been a Gopher fan since 1972 and IN THE STREET AND SMITH TRADITION, thought I would put out an all-state list of where recruits came from, that played for the Gophers.. I used the criteria of having at least 5 players from that state and all were NON-MINNESOTANS... Minnesota all-state team would be a page all to itself.. This kinda shows which state players have been recruited the most, in the last 45 years. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO LOOK BACK.

All-Illinois - Jim Brewer, Clyde Turner, James Jackson, Jim Shikenjanski, Marlon Maxey, Walter Bond, Dana Jackson, Townsend Orr, Kerwin Fleming, Aaron Robinson, Stan Gaines. Akeem Springs

All- Michigan - Corky Taylor, Bill Harmon, Trent Tucker, John Wiley, Roland Brooks, Kevin Smith, John Shasky, Willie Burton, Connell Lewis, Erik WIlson. Voshon Lenard, Darrell Whaley.

All-New York - Ron Behagen, Bob Murphy, Ray WIlliams, Eric Harris, J'son Stamper, Dupree McBrayer, and Isaiah Washington(coming up).

All- Florida - Cookie Holmes, Darryl Mitchell, Zebedee Howell, Mitch Lee. Antoine Broxsie, Limar WIlson, Carlos Morris, Mychal Thompson, and Osbourne Lockhart(thanks to Gopherwab on the last 2 as I thought they came straight from the Bahamas)

All- California - Bill Duffy, George Williams, Miles Tarver, Kevin Nathaniel, Kerry Woolridge, Rico Tucker, Justin Cobbs, Maverick Ahanmisi, Julien Welch

All-Ohio - Flip Saunders, Charles Sims, Ray Gaffney, Melvin Newbern, David Grim, Kevin Baker

All-Tennessee(might as well say Memphis) - Randy Carter, Andre Hollins, Austin Hollins, Deandre Matthieu, and Eric Curry

All-North Carolina- Lou Hudson(ok so I cheated as I watched him with the Atlanta Hawks), Richard Coffey, Ariel McDonald, Bobby Jackson, and Vincent Grier.

A few good ones from Georgia and Louisiana as well... A couple from Arkansas and Texas. A few from Wisconsin but these are the major talent producing states for the Gophers outside of Minnesota in the last 45 years,
