This is way early, no doubt. We dont have any idea of where Minnesota will pick in the draft. We don't have any idea who will declare early for the draft. But I am just thinking realistic targets. To me, if Okafor comes out and we have the number one pick, that is where you go. He is a special talent though a lot of prognosticators say that he is an average athlete. Strong hands and body and understands his limitations. Close-to-the-basket guy with confidence and anticipates rebounds well. Maybe doesn't translate to a great shotblocker at the pro level but I think he will be a special player.
Otherwise, I actually think Minnesota needs to get more mature.... They have the run-jump young athletes already that are in their early 20's. A ton of young wings.. They have some age at the shooting guard with Martin and Neal. Pek is in his late 20's and of course Garnett. In this draft, I would like to see them pick up a Frank Kaminsky, if he was available. Good for the future as he has an array of offensive moves, would rebound well, and wouldn't be a pain in Flip's backside. I think Flip would welcome the maturity of a 4 year college player on this team. I realize this pick could go to the Suns if we aren't in the lottery, so we could lose it, but I like Kaminsky for this team. Another guy is the Towns kid from Kentucky if he comes out.. Maybe not as polished as Okafor but he has a ton of upside.
Another guy that is a high character guy that I like, that may drop to the second round because of injury, is Justin Anderson from Virginia. Minnesota has a lot of young wings already but I think they would be smart to part with a few of them, especially a guy like Budinger, who is a contract nightmare. Justin Anderson is an efficient shooter from the college 3, can defend, and is a mature person. Strong body and I think would work hard. A lot of people I have read have talked about for the T-wolves in the first round if he comes out is D'Angelo Russell from Ohio State. Great athlete and tall guard but another really young player.
Flip needs guys that go to work, to build around Wiggins. He has the flash and athleticism factor there with Rubio, WIggins, LaVine, and co. Needs guys that do the little things to make plays. I wouldn't be against a trade to bring in a top talent at the SG, if they could get it. Don't think that is realistic but that wouldnt be a bad thing. I hope Garnett is good for the young bigs and they have talent. Just gotta put it together.
