Maybe this thought has been made by many others and I’m slow to it, but it just hit me why Democrats are pushing to keep the Covid Unemployment subsidy at $600. They are forcing the hands of businesses to pay more to hire help. If potential workers won’t get off unemployment because they’re making more currently sitting at home, then in order to staff up, wages need to be increased.
This is the left’s way of initializing a minimum wage increase without having to go through all the bullshit associated with it. Instead, they inflate a subsidy that seemed necessary at the time and hold strong despite obvious ramifications.
Unfortunately small businesses like mine will have to adapt and raise our prices more than we’d like to offset the extra expense. Just a stupid vicious cycle that never ends. Inflate inflate inflate.
