Football Recruiting The Gopher State: Top 2024 Prospects in Minnesota

PJ Fleck has stated many times that in-state prospects are a priority for the Gophers, so let's take a look at who those may be for 2024 and where they stand in their recruitment ⬇️

Basketball ***GAME THREAD: WISCONSIN***

Minnesota on the road against Wisconsin tonight.

Gophers are back up to .500 on the season at 6-6 after back-to-back wins over Arkansas Pine Bluff and Chicago State. They are currently 0-2 in the Big Ten play with losses to Purdue (89-70) and Michigan (90-75).

Wisconsin is 10-2 on the season and currently ranked No. 14 nationally with notable wins over Maryland, Iowa, Marquette, Southern Cal, Dayton, and Stanford. They have close losses to Kansas (69-68) and Wake Forest (78-75) as their only setbacks so far this season.

Minnesota native, Tyler Wahl, leads Wisconsin in scoring (14.2) and rebounds (6.8). He has notched double-digits in nine of the Badgers 12 games this season. Wisconsin has three other players averaging double-digits in scoring - Chucky Hepburn (11.9), Steven Crowl (11.5), and Connor Essegian (10.4).

Might be another long night for the Gophers in Big Ten play, tipoff at 8 p.m.

Badgers land transfer QB from SMU

SIAP. Tanner Mordecai, SMU QB for past 2 years, is transferring to Wisconsin. He threw for 72 TDs at SMU in the past 2 seasons. Previously at Oklahoma. It's gonna be a different Wiscy offense next season.

2022: 288/444 (64.9%), 3525 yds, 33 TDs, 10 Ints, 151.9 QBR

2021: 308/454 (67.8%), 3628 yds, 39 TDs, 12 INTs, 158 QBR

Looks like Badgers have had Gopher QB envy and will now have their own Tanner M. to cheer for.

With prior commitment of transfer Nick Evers, Badgers now have 2 former Oklahoma QBs.

I would not be opposed to the Gophs picking up an experienced portal QB with 1 year of eligibility, if there is someone decent that could be content to back up AK (probably a long-shot), and play in case of injury. Or will Knuth be ready for this role in 7 months?

Cody Lindenberg update

I spoke with Cody at the U this morning about his season, the bowl game and his injury...

He's really feeling more comfortable with the speed of the game, much more so than last year and early this year when injuries were holding him back. He's really going to miss his seniors and super seniors who have taught his so much...Excited for next year.

Really enjoyed the trip to NYC and the events the team had planned for the players...the experience was "unreal". He came back home right after the game because of the injury but other teammates stayed a day or two longer.

He thought the venue itself(Yankee Stadium) was pretty cool, didn't like the turf obviously...

He was going for appointment on his leg injury, he isn't on crutches but is in a special boot...more of orthopedic lower leg injury than ankle. Will take time to heal....

UNDER ARMOR VOLLEYBALL GAME - MINATEE AND SCHNICKELS WERE SOLID

I watched the HS All-American volleyball game today, Minnesota Gopher recruits Calissa Minatee and Sydney Schickels played on the team that won, 3-2. Minatee is a very active and athletic middle blocker. Moves her feet well to get to the block and is pretty good at her responsibilities.

Schnickels is very long, which you would expect from a 6-4 player. She is an excellent server and seems to always make the smart play. She can play opposite hitter for us so I expect her to compete for playing time, right off the bat. Definitely athletic enough for this level of volleyball. I would think that Crowl, Hanson, and Schnickels will compete for time at the opposite pin.

I am excited for both players and they will play early for us, IMO. We will definitely like both players in this upcoming season!!
