MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota wrestling program is set to kick off the second half of the season as they prepare to travel eastbound to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2023 Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear.
Competition for the event will take place from January 1-2, with full broadcast coverage of the Southern Scuffle available on FloWrestling. Fans can also follow along for live match-by-match updates on Twitter at @GopherWrestling.
The Southern Scuffle is once again expected to have a competitive slate of teams, as it is widely considered one of the toughest regular season tournaments in collegiate wrestling. Among the teams in attendance will be Iowa State, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Stanford.
Minnesota returns to the Southern Scuffle for the second straight season after previously being absent from the tournament from 2018-2021. The Gophers' previous appearance saw the Maroon & Gold finish fourth as a team, with
Patrick McKee walking away as the 125-pound champion.
Aaron Nagao also reached the finals, placing second at 133 pounds.
Following this weekend's action, the Gophers will kick off Big Ten competition with a road dual against Northwestern in a top-10 showdown on Saturday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. CST.
