BJ Autry update

As I posted in the other thread, Autry was indeed the visitor that couldn't be revealed over the weekend. I said that he would likely take another visit or two before making a decision. The place he was most likely to visit was Auburn, but I'm told that the Auburn visit likely won't be happening. From talking to the source, it sounded more like Auburn was cancelling the visit/didn't want him than Autry cancelling the visit because he had already picked Minnesota, but whatever the case is, we should be happy that he's no longer visiting Auburn and doesn't have any other visits planned.

As a four-star JUCO who held offers from Florida, Oklahoma, etc., Autry would be an excellent addition and would compete for a starting spot immediately.

I'm not sure about his eligibility situation. He entered Baylor with three years to play three, but was an early enrollee so he's been enrolled in classes and participated in some of spring ball. So by rule, he would have to sit out a year, but I would think there's a possibility he's granted some form of a hardship waiver because of the mess at Baylor. We probably won't know that until he enrolls elsewhere and gets a ruling from the NCAA.

Leidner's Foot Surgery

GI Staff

I’ve never seen a report that specifically described Mitch Leinder’s foot injury diagnosis or the precise foot surgery performed.

Any insight? Plantar fasciitis – plantar fascia release; Ankle instability – lateral ankle reconstruction; Lis Franc injury – Ligament repair or bone fusion; Turf Toe – MTP plantar plate reconstruction?

Those different surgeries have varying degrees of success, predictable outcomes. Some are very dependent on compliance and following the protocols. Many athletes are their own worst enemies as they try to push the envelope in an effort to return to sport more quickly.

I’d anticipate a complete non-answer in press conference “Mitch is right on target. We expect him to be 100% by fall camp”. I’d simply like to know what the problem was and what was done to correct it.

We are going to be painfully thin at PG

We have wings/SG all over the place for the 2016-17 Gopher basketball team but we are in tough shape for PGs.. Jordan Murphy proved to be the on-court stud of the freshman class last year but if there is one player I would love to see make a huge gain from last year is Dupree McBrayer.. I like that kid as I think he has good basketball sense on the court.. Yes, he needs to improve his shot and make steady gains in most areas but I see something in that kid that says "bright future". Right now, we ONLY have 1 PG and that is Nate Mason.. McBrayer and Amir Coffey will have to handle it some but we are in trouble if Mason gets hurt or something else, off court, happens.

As far as scholarships for next year, most think it will be 3(Springs, Buggs' scholly, and a yet unnamed transfer that always happens). Honestly, I see the possibility of even more. If Gaston is the transfer out AND the worst case scenario with Reggie Lynch happens, we could have 4 schollies to play with for next season.. Then, I think one of the wings who does not get the playing time may depart so I think a maximum of 5 is a possibility, however remote that chance may be..... I dont think it is inconceivable that we grab 2 PGs in the next class, if that scenario existed. Ones' thinking Wright and Davison do have to consider, however, that the TIMING of when the Gophers would know if that scholarship scenario exists. Both may be committed by the time those Gophers decide to leave or cases decided. I HOPE NO ONE TRANSFERS SO I AM NOT FOR RUNNING A KID OFF FOR A BETTER PLAYER.. But that 'fine line' gets walked by the coaches as they tell kids whether they will play in the future... I think 4 will exist next year, NO INFORMATION TO SUPPORT THAT, so 2 Bigs and 2 PGs will be in our future.. Mason will be a senior so those young guys will have a year to learn from him.

These are the 4 scholarships that I feel will open up for 2017, in total:
Springs' scholly
Buggs' scholly
A wing will leave.
Either Lynch gets booted, or if not, Gaston transfers.

MY IDEAL CLASS WOULD BE THEO JOHN, JERICHO SIMS, McKINLEY WRIGHT, either Isaiah Washington or Brad Davison.

Good article on 2018 Wrestling Target Alex Lloyd

There are lots of great high school wrestlers coming up in the next few years from Minnesota!!

Currently ranked #25 in the class of 2018, 145 pound Alex Lloyd is clearly an elite wrestler. Along with #1 Gable Steveson, #13 Roman Bravo-Young, and Patrick McKee...getting these four would likely give us the #1 recruiting class for 2018!

Here is Alex's very unique backstory from The Guillotine and Intermat:

From Russian orphan to American wrestling star

"Every picture tells a story, don't it?"
-- Rod Stewart

Sorry Rod. It only tells part of it. Many times in life I find myself thinking I know what's going on only to say later, "Who knew?" Once I asked a young gentleman if the woman next to him was his mother only to find out later it was his wife. Oops! There is always something deeper going on than what we see.

There is a young man wrestling for Shakopee (Minn.) High School where the picture doesn't tell the story. If you know much about the high school wrestling scene in Minnesota, you know Alex Lloyd is a one of the stars. I have him listed as one of the top 10 overall wrestlers in Minnesota in a previous column. He belongs. He's the reigning Cadet National (Fargo) Greco-Roman champion. Of the three styles, it's his weakest. The kid is talented. That part is not debatable. What's not told is ten years ago Alex couldn't speak a word of English. It's not that he was having trouble with it. He had never heard a word of it. Alex was spending that part of his life in a Russian orphanage.

I first heard about this a few seasons ago while Alex was in eighth grade. I was talking to former Gopher and NCAA champion Jared Lawrence at his PINnacle Wrestling Club. I asked him who the future stars are in Minnesota. He told me about Brent Jones, Aaron Cashman, Patrick Kennedy and Alex Lloyd. He said, "Now there's a story for you." He pointed to Lloyd, who was in a little war with Mitch McKee on the far mat. A few months later, Alex Lloyd and Mitch McKee would meet in the semifinals of the state tournament. McKee won that matchup and Lloyd would take home the bronze medal. Later that summer I watched Alex go on a nice tear and become an All-American in Fargo.

I had the pleasure of meeting his father Bill Lloyd at the InterMat JJ Classic a month later. I asked him a little about the Russian background and out comes this short and wild story. He got choked up and couldn't finish. This week Bill and his wife Karen, along with Alex told the long version.

Bill and Karen Lloyd had produced a son Jackson 17 years ago. The pregnancy was especially difficult for Karen, and their newborn boy came into the world much earlier than most kids. He arrived ten weeks ahead of schedule and spent a long period of time at the hospital in an incubator. When little Jackson was 4, he started begging his parents for a brother, and he didn't stop asking. The parents knew they wouldn't be able to go through another grueling pregnancy, and through their church, they heard of "Reaching Arms International." Another family was looking to adopt, and the Lloyds thought this would be the right strategy.

As you might suspect, the parents were put through a rigorous background check that included fingerprinting, criminal background checks and mandatory parenting classes. In the end, they were determined as a fit and loving couple. They would be eligible for one child. This led them to a young African boy named Ronny. They started receiving pictures and naturally became overly excited about this little fella. This adoption fell through as fast as it started. Though heartbroken, they kept on. They stayed with the same agency and were soon told they were eligible for a child from Russia … except it came with a strong caveat. They would have to take two boys. These two kids would turn out to be brothers Alex (6) and Jacob (3).

These two little guys were being raised along with roughly 100 other young kids in an orphanage based in a village in Bryansk. Kids end up in these rough conditions usually as a result of forcible removal from their home. Alex has a clear memory of two men showing up, and for reasons he couldn't comprehend, would leave with them. He hasn't seen his mom since. She was a single mother with a drinking problem.

Bill and Karen took their first trip to Moscow followed by a six-hour train ride to meet their new little boys. They were told to bring an envelope with $100 bills. In spite of not being able to communicate with words, they bonded quickly. They tossed a football in the yard and fell in love fast. This trip to and from Russia lasted six days.

Next came the agonizing and painful long wait. Eight months later Bill and Karen would take that return trip and this time weren't leaving without those boys. Alex (Denis Alexandrovic) was there, but Jacob (Yury) was nowhere to be found. He was in a sanitor (Russian name for hospital) for malnourishment and Tuberculosis. Karen couldn't stay for this unexpected news as this delay was playing out. She would have to take a flight back alone to care for their son and could only hope things would turn out well. Bill rented an apartment and spent his days picking up Alex on a bicycle and visiting his younger brother.

Once Jacob was healthy, the trip to the United States began. It started with the long train ride to Moscow. These two little guys had never heard of or seen an airplane. At the airport, they were introduced to automatic doors and escalators. There wasn't an interpreter, and Bill had his hands full with these two little guys. They were bouncing all over the place like the man in the yellow hat looking after Curious George. Except there were two!

When they arrived in the U.S. there was a large group at the airport ready to greet these two new little Minnesotans. At first it was really hard. Alex and Jacob were used to fighting for and hoarding food like squirrels. Once Karen saw Alex eating an orange like an apple with the peeling still on. He wasn't aware an orange needed peeling before eating. They also had never celebrated a birthday and had no idea what it meant. Their first Christmas was like going to Disneyworld for the first time. Everyone communicated with hand signals and the boys only knew Russian.

Alex entered first grade a year older than his classmates and, fortunately, there was a small group of Russians in Shakopee the Lloyds could rely on as liaisons and interpreters. But that language issue would soon come to an end. At first the boys were not allowed to speak Russian at the dinner table. Then, and from then on, they started to learn English. If you ask Alex to talk Russian today, he won't be able to. It's completely gone from his memory. Nine years ago it was all he knew. Today he speaks English as well as any 16-year-old teenager without any sign of an accent.

While attending a wedding, The Lloyds noticed Alex dancing like crazy. He was doing cartwheels and flips, and it became evident this little guy was an athlete. They enrolled him in gymnastics. This helped burn off some of that boundless energy and shortly after that he found youth wrestling.

Bill had a background in the sport and was happy to see both boys take right to it. It helped that Alex has a personality that attracts other kids. He soon made lifelong friends with wrestling families in Shakopee like the Crowes, Jones,' Websters and the list keeps growing. Mark Neu was coaching the young guys back then and was immediately smitten by Alex. He was a freak athlete and had that spunky and mischievous personality some little boys have.

Neu remembers Alex with an amazing amount of energy and a never-ending gas tank. If there was a problem, it was just keeping him focused. The language barrier did not cause problems in the wrestling room. He was able to quickly pick-up the sport through example, and he found his passion. Alex was a natural and Neu has never had a wrestler like him in all his 27 years coaching. Lloyd has no fear, and it was proven as a seventh-grader when he faced No. 1-ranked sophomore Austin Anderly and won 7-6. He would finish fifth in the state that year.

lloydnorthernplains2016.jpg

The following season was the third-place finish behind good friend Mitch McKee. Just to prove the kid is not perfect, we all found out he missed weight at the state tournament as a freshman and couldn't compete. He talks about this with deep shame and regret. He was connected to a young girl at the time and didn't discipline himself like he normally would. It's his cross to bear, and I'm sure he'll be able to tell this story without guilt someday. This past season, as a sophomore, he won a state championship, finishing the season with a 42-1 record.

Alex Lloyd has plenty of goals. Like a lot of Minnesota wrestlers, he dreams of being a national champion and maybe wrestling for the University of Minnesota or another prestigious collegiate program. But for now, he's a nice and very friendly young man from Russia, who happens to be one of our future stars.

This story was originally published in The Guillotine. The Guillotine has been covering wrestling in Minnesota since 1971. Its mission is to report and promote wrestling at all levels -- from youth and high school wrestling to college and international level wrestling.

Donnell Greene update

Coffeyville CC lineman Donnell Greene visited Minnesota last week. He is scheduled to visit Missouri tomorrow, but I'm told it's iffy as to whether or not Missouri really wants him and I think they'll figure that out on their visit. He plans to make a decision either Thursday or Friday between Minnesota and Missouri, as he hasn't heard from any other schools.

Greene apparently got along really well with Brian Anderson and offensive quality control coach William Peagler, so the Gophers have that going for them. It's just wait and see right now on if he picks up a Missouri offer and how he likes the visit to Missouri.

Stand up Troll

Not sure if it is 086, Barbar & Digits, 22 & EBT, BSM or just Bronco. This was posted on a Facebook post of WI Gov Scott Walker, I couldn't make some of this stuff up

Federal Government Hires Internet TROLLS to Monitor and "Correct" Online Discussions

This subject is of big interest to me and I am happy to see other websites picking up the concerns and expressing them publicly. I have crossed paths with these undercover agents many times, on various websites and forums, and a I can tell you from my first hand experience that they are extremely effective.

They are usually intelligent and well informed people, and a couple of them operating on each section of a forum, are enough to kill a subject of major interest almost immediately.

I. CIA-Sponsored Trolls Monitor Internet and Interact With Users to Discredit Factual Information

"In July (2012) it became apparent through a flood of mainstream media reports that the National Security Agency (NSA) was 'desperate to hire new hacking talent to protect the nation's critical infrastructure' yet the NSA is notorious for its surveillance programs on American digital activity...

David Petraeus, former director of the CIA, is seeking to better the CIA's ability to create online identities for undercover spies." [1], [2 nsa.gov], [3];

"David Petraeus essentially admitted that the CIA has a covert online presence that it uses not only for data mining purposes but also to infiltrate online conversations for the purpose of protecting 'national security' interests.

Such interests, it turns out, include disrupting conversations that discuss topics like 9/11 truth, for instance, or U.S. involvement in giving weapons to Syrian rebels." [4]

II. Their work can be summed up into 5 major categories:

1. They combine their vast knowledge with disinformation and ridicule, in order to make a subject appear as uninteresting and misleading as possible.

2. At the same time, they fuel meaningless debates on uninteresting subjects, easily diverting attention from the important ones -- while keeping the first page of a forum filled with subjects bringing nothing new or crucial, and acting merely as distractions.

3. If a given subject is of major interest and they are not able to instantly kill it, then they will divert the discussion to one of the never-ending "divide and conquer" debates, like politics, racism, war, etc.

4. They work together to report those who are informed for things they have not committed, like copyright infringement or spam, in order to have their accounts suspended; or provoke them systematically, looking for an offensive reaction that is sanctioned by the forum rules.

5. Finally, they infiltrate the high ranks of a forum or website, becoming "moderators". This gives them power to delete threads of interest, due to fake copyright infringement reported by their undercover colleagues, and they can go as far as permanently banning a user.

III. One of my first hand experiences: a permanent ban

I've had my account deleted and all my articles and comments removed from a major conspiracy forum, where huge numbers of undercover "agents" (too much of a word for these governmental lackeys) operate, due to copyright infringements to... myself!

After bringing to their attention that I was the one who wrote the articles, they've accused me of advertising. In the forum rules it was mandatory to include a link back to the article's source, but in my case it was considered advertisement.

The forum's moderator explained in the same email that he received numerous reports from various users, accusing me of the already mentioned rule infringements. I've received no previous warning and offered no chance to "redeem" myself. All my future emails explaining the situation in a civilized manner (and even offering to remove the source links), were completely ignored.

IV. How to spot the internet trolls

If you are a forum moderator, site owner or concerned member of a community, and you want to flush the undercover trolls out, then you should pay attention to the following behavioral patterns:

- They usually post discrediting messages in groups, supporting each other's claims, while demoting, ridiculing or spreading disinformation in all interesting threads. These trolls are usually very active and they are the first ones to post replies -- because this is what they are payed for.

(You will notice on some forums that the first half dozen to a dozen replies are ridiculing the subject or spreading disinformation on the subject. This method is casting a dark shadow on the thread, and not many people will see through their fog of lies).

- Their overall activity in other people's threads is not constructive. They are always in contradiction to the thread's OP and with those who support it.

- They usually support each other's threads, making them even easier to unmask.

- Their threads are usually about the already "drained" subjects like the Roswell incident or JFK's assassination - where they allegedly try to bring new light to the subjects; they post a lot about Masonry for some reason that I don't fully understand, and - of course - they encourage everyone to take violent actions against the government (which is exactly what the government wants).

- Their avatars are in contrast to the main theme of the forum.

(For example, those who were ridiculing spiritual subjects on spiritual forums, had negative avatars depicting: Satanic or Masonic symbols, violence, mocking spirituality, etc.).

- They are very active and part of many groups and communities, but they are mainly activated by specific subjects -- those they know best.

- It is very probable that they have applied in the past for the "moderator" role and they are periodically reporting users who infringe the forum's rules (many times wrongfully).

V. What can you do about it?

If you are a user and you spot one of these undercover agents, please report them to a forum moderator, and bring as much evidence as possible to support your claims.
