A look at the Beavers.....

Head Coach: Gary Anderson ( 2nd year)
2015 record 2-10 ( 0-9 in PAC 12 play)
2016 Recruiting Class: #41 by Rivals ( Two 4 star recruits)
2015 Class: Red Shirted 24 freshmen
MINNESOTA RECRUIT: Robert Olson 6'5" 290# from Eden Prairie( Fr)
What to look for: The Beavers have a deep stable of RB's and WR's.
Key Player:Transfer QB Darrell Garretson from Utah State.
Defensive help: 6 early enrollees from the 2016 class.
Where they need to improve: Last in the conference in QB sacks.
Reason for hope: With a short roster they outscored the Ducks 35-21 in the second half in the last game of 2015.
Looking Ahead: Anderson is a proven winner although he indicated the situation is tougher than he expected. With a top shelf staff the trajectory is on the rise. The Beavers will move the chains this fall. With focus by Anderson on the defensive line this will be a much improved football team.

Hockey: Potomak named national rookie of the year

Minnesota's Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi, and Lee Stecklein were honored as 2016 CCM Hockey Division I Women's Ice Hockey All-Americans and freshman Sarah Potomak was named the National Rookie of the Year at the 2016 NCAA Women's Frozen Four banquet Thursday night.

Potomak is the first Gopher to earn National Rookie of the Year honors since Cameranesi earned the award in 2014.

Schierhorn named Big 10 Goalie of the Year

Minnesota freshman Eric Schierhorn has been named the 2016 Big Ten Goaltender of the Year, along with being named a First Team All-Big Ten honoree and a Big Ten All-Rookie Team.

Minnesota also added three Second Team All-Big Ten honorees in Justin Kloos, Hudson Fasching and Michael Brodzinski while Jake Bischoff was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and Minnesota’s Sportsmanship Award winner.

Anybody else think it's weird that Urban Meyer

endorsed a candidate for president?

I mean, he's entitled to his beliefs but it seems like a strange move from a PR perspective.

Especially considering it's a guy like John Kasich, who recently voted to defund planned parenthood.

Seems like a possible source of negative recruiting:

'Urban Meyer doesn't want you to be able to get an anonymous STD check, and he doesn't want your sisters, mothers, or lovers to have access to health care. Why would you wanna play for a guy trying to deny healthcare to average people?'

I'm not trying to start a big flame war. Just pointing out the inherent risk of a high profile coach endorsing anybody.

How do you think the Big Ten does in the NCAA tourney??

I think the Big Ten has a couple teams that will do well in the tourney and the rest, so-so.

Here are my thoughts:

Michigan State did not play all that well in the 2nd half against Purdue but their best basketball is still ahead of them, I think.. I like their draw, especially heading back to Chicago. I think they will make a serious run. On the other side of their bracket, I feel Virginia is a bit overrated but they play really good defense.. I still think Virginia's last couple years were better teams and would not surprise me to see Purdue come out of the other side of the bracket. Back to Michigan State, Denzel Valentine and their shooting guards have played well.. Matt Costello has developed nicely and Davis is going to be a stud. At least to the Elite 8. Seton Hall is a team to be wary of for them as they play well as a team

Purdue is a tough team to match up against with their back-to-the basket old school bigs.. They alter things on defense, as well. If they can get a strong start, that is key.. I honestly think they can beat Virginia on their half of the draw as I don't think the Cavaliers can score enough points to beat everyone in their region. Purdue gets to the second weekend at least.

Indiana.. Looking forward to the matchup with Kentucky... With Indiana, everything is about hitting early shots and consistency in defense.. They start strong and they can beat anyone with that shooting.. They can look as bad as they are good... I say to the Sweet 16.

Iowa......Another McCaffrey dud on the way... Don't know if they escape their first weekend

Wisconsin.. Never know about that team.. Depends how Koenig and Hayes play, of course. Gard is a good preparation coach so I am up in the air on this one.

Michigan - Got to hit the 3 ball early and often, in their play-in game and all others.. Don't think they will have the horses to go real far but you never know with a team that can shoot the 3's. Don't think they will get to the second weekend.

Maryland.... Everything is about guard play, especially with Trimble and consistency of Jon Layman, up front. Robert Carter is underrated.. Diamond Stone is very good as a freshman.. Trimble can carry the team as can Sulaimon.. Can they put it all together, is the question.. Might get knocked out early but I can see them squeaking into the second weekend.
