NEW YORK — Anthony Nelson, the 6-foot-4, 175-pound Class of 2018 point guard from the NY Lightning and South Kent (CT), took his second official visit to Seton Hall during the opening weekend of college basketball practice.
“They keep telling me that they need a point guard to come in and make plays for everybody and they said that’s where I fit at,” Nelson said Saturday at the NYC Hoops for Hurricane Relief game at the Gauchos Gym.
Nelson attended the team’s first practice for a Pirates team that is expected to contend for the Big East regular-season title and a third straight NCAA Tournament bid.
“It was good good energy,” he said. “They practice real well, they practice hard. There was good energy in the gym.”
Seton Hall will lose senior Khadeen Carrington next season, but will return current freshman point guard Jordan Walker.
“I know Jordan, I met everybody else this weekend,” he said.
Asked if he could see himself playing with Walker, he said, “Yeah.”
He added, “They’re one of the schools that I really like.”
Nelson previously visited Dayton last weekend.
“It was a good visit,” he said. “The same message, the intensity there was good.”
Nelson also lists Clemson, Minnesota and West Virginia among his top five.
“I’ll probably take one more visit,” he said. “I’m not sure which school yet. I might visit Minnesota on the 13th.”
Still, he plans to decide relatively soon.
“It’s still five, but I’m just going to take three visits,” he said.
Wherever he goes, he plans to bring “My play-making ability. Get everybody involved and play hard.”
