Here is an update of names that Minnesota is looking at to finalize its 2018 class.
High school offers:
Anfernee Simons
Tai Strickland
Courtney Ramey
Trey McGowens (a 2019 guard who could reclassify to 2018).
Giorgio Bezhanishvili (a post player with an offer, but expect Minnesota to look at guards)
High school seniors who Minnesota is looking at but has not offered:
James Akinjo (PG just got his release from UCONN. Minnesota is reportedly interested).
Transfers:
Ryan Taylor (graduate transfer shooting guard from Evansville).
Payton Willis (sophomore combo guard from Vanderbilt).
Marcus Carr (freshman point guard from Pitt).
Parker Stewart (freshman shooting guard from Pitt).
Expect Pitino and his staff to pursue even more players as they come available. Any highly rated senior guard who is currently unsigned or decommits will get a look. They will also be checking the transfer wire and will research almost every point/combo guard. If a second spot becomes available Pitino will not be above giving one scholarship to a player who might have to redshirt for a season. The top priority if finding a ball handler for next season.
