Today and tomorrow, women have good shot at title. Ranked #10 in nation, top ranked Big Ten team.

Names to watch for: Karlie Place (pole vault, 4,28m, River Falls, transfer from UW-Milwaukee), Ayesha Champagnie (long jump, 6.56m, Kingston, Jamaica, transfer from Barton, Kansas CC), and Kaitlyn Long (weight throw, 23.14m, Monona Grove, WI, transfer from Winona State) lead the Big Ten Conference this season in their respective events. Meanwhile, fellow Gophers Kiley Sabin (second, shot put, Slinger,WI), Emma Spagnola (second, 60m hurdles, Aurora, IL), Titania Markland (third, 600m, Jamaica), Heta Tuuri (tied for third, high jump, Finland ), and Taylor Wiebke (tied for third, high jump, KassonMantorville) are among the top-three individuals in the B1G this year. Likewise, Minnesota's distance medley relay team of Bethany Hasz, Alexandria, MN, Emerald Egwim, Titania Markland, and Madeline Strandemo, Fargo, ranks third in the conference.

Men to watch: This weekend's competition marks the final chance for the Gophers to improve their standing for the NCAA indoor meet's field with Maroon & Gold already ranked among the top-25 in the nation in three events. Behind one of the best performances in school history, Ryan Lockard from Eastview ranks tied for 11th in the nation (and ranks second in the Big Ten) in the high jump at 2.21 meters (7-03.00 ft.). Teddy Frid from South St. Paul ranks 16th in the heptathlon at 5,605 points and the 4x400 meter relay team of Jonathan Webb, Woodbury/Minnehaha, Matthew Baker,Moundsview, Ben Psicihulis, Waukesha, WI, Kettle Moraine HS, and Jackson Wellenstein, Madison West, WI) rank 22nd in the nation at 2:07.93. Obsa Ali from Richfield also strong in distance. Wiebke from KassonMantorville is on roster and is returning Champ in mile, but hasn't been running indoors.

Gopher alum Ben Blankenship from Stillwater is training in Oregon, running very good 1,500/mile...saw him on TV in the Wanamaker Mile at the Melrose Games in NY...he will compete at World Indoors for U.S. Another Gopher, Hassan Mead from Mpls South, won the U.S. 10,000 last summer, and is also training in Oregon. Harun Abda, Goph alum from Fridley was sixth in the US indoor 800. Also part of Oregon Track Club in Eugene.
