MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Stearns County deputy made an unexpected - and expensive - discovery Friday.

At around 4:15 p.m., the deputy was on patrol heading northbound on County Road 3, south of County Road 131 in Brockway Township. Just south of the intersection, the deputy noticed a lot of cash blowing in the breeze.

After investigating further, the deputy eventually collected the large amount of cash, which was $3,010 in total.

Along with the money, the deputy also found a bank slip that identified the branch location and account holder. The sum of the money recovered matched what was withdrawn.

The information was then verified with the banking institution and the money was placed into property.

The owner came to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office on Saturday and retrieved the cash.
