Sid opened asking about Rodney Smith and his health going forward. *Update, it is a torn ACL for Rodney Smith and his season is likely over*

Emmit Carpenter was the next topic Sid asked as Emmit hit two 50+ yard field goals this past weekend. PJ reiterated that he likes the team’s refusal to lose mentality and that he trusts this football team. While for a normal kicker 50+ is not great odds, Fleck believes that for Carpenter he likes those odds.

Seth Green converted a pass to Ko Kieft for the two-point conversion. The team has multiple two-point plays and felt that play fit the scenario perfectly after running wildcat all game.

Antione Winfield Jr. came to the sideline after his game-sealing pick and said, “I blew it (the coverage) so I had to make up for it.” PJ called it one of the most impactful plays he’s seen from anybody, on any level given the situation and what Antoine had to do to make the play.

While Tyler Johnson had a great game and a catch to keep the drive alive on 3rd down, first thing PJ said was that he has to be more consistent and Tyler would agree with that. Also gave credit to Rashod Bateman and Chris Autman-Bell for being young players that aren’t afraid to make plays.

On Zack Annexstad, “he has a tremendous personality…he has so much fun playing the game. It’s a breath of fresh air.” When Fresno State was driving to tie the game up, Annexstad goes “isn’t this fun?”, while Fleck was stressed out over the game. But that is the type of player Zack Annexstad is.

Coach believes that Bryce Williams got better and better as the game went on Saturday and is probably playing before he should be. With the injury to Rodney, the team will be leaning on Williams and redshirt freshmen Mo Ibrahim to carry the ball.

The Gophers next opponent is Miami of Ohio at home. They lost this past week to in-state rival Cincinnati. They have a stud receiver named James Gardner that PJ believes will play in the NFL. He also said that they recruited a lot of players from that team when he was at Western Michigan and they cannot take them lightly.
