Tyler Johnson is a certified star.

The Minneapolis native exploded onto the scene last year with 35 catches for 677 yards and seven touchdowns. Through three games this season, he has hauled in 20 balls for 283 yards and five scores. Johnson has 69 career catches for 1,101 yards (24th in school history) and 13 touchdowns (tied for 11th all-time). Johnson has recorded 960 of those yards under coach P.J. Fleck and position coach Matt Simon and has done so in his last 13 games, as he played in 10 games last year and three this year.

Johnson's 677 receiving yards last season were the fifth most ever by a Minnesota sophomore and that was despite missing the final two games of the season with an injury. His seven receiving touchdowns were the second most ever by a sophomore. To crack the top five as a junior he will need 60 catches and 822 yards.

The junior caught three touchdowns against Miami tying his career high, as he also caught three (all in the fourth quarter) last year against Michigan State. Johnson is the second Gopher ever to catch three touchdowns in a game twice, as he joins Da'Jon McKnight who did it in 2010 against Penn State and in 2011 at Michigan State.
