The Jonesboro, Ga., native needs 1,260all-purpose yards in this season to break Darrell Thompson's school record of 5,109 yards.
Smith has played in 37 games and averages 104.1 all-purpose yards per game. He averaged 66.2 yards as a freshman, 123.8 as a sophomore and 120.6 last season as a junior. Smith needs to average 105 yards per game as a senior to break Thompson's mark, which has stood since the end of the 1989 season.
In his career, Smith has been named All-Big Ten Third Team (2016) and All-Big Ten Honorable Mention (2017). He also received the team's Bronko Nagurski Award (Team MVP) in 2016 and 2017 and in 2016 he was honored with the team's Bruce Smith Award (Outstanding Offensive Player) and was named the Bob McNamara Offensive Back of the Year.
