You can't measure heart. Carter Coughlin may be undersized at 245 pounds for a typical pass rusher but his speed has caused fits for offensive linemen since he transitioned from linebacker to a rush end role last season.
Coughlin is averaging a sack per game in the 2018 season. He already has five sacks this season which is ranked first in the entire Big Ten and No. 10 in the NCAA after recording a team leading 6.5 last year.
Coughlin's sack against Iowa caused a fumble in the red zone that would turn to points for the Gophers on the following offensive drive. Coughlin leads the Gophers with nine sacks over his past 11 games.
The Eden Prairie, Minn., native has 13.5 career sacks which has him 9th all-time in Gophers history and can hit the top-5 all-time with just 2.5 more sacks. He also has 6.5 tackles for loss this season which ranks No. 4 in the conference after recording a team leading 11.5 last season. He has 22 tackles for loss in his career.
