Spent the weekend booking my trip out to Denver for the weekend of the Colorado State game
If you use Kayak to price out flights, Spirit comes back like $40 cheaper than anybody else
However by the time they nickel and dime you for carry-on/checked bags, an extra fee to select your seats to sit next to whomever you are traveling with and whatnot...its pretty much a wash.
Literally, the only way Spirit is the cheapest choice is if you aren't traveling with anything and you dont care where you sit
I'm probably not breaking any news to those of you that use air travel far more often that I do, but still I was quite surprised.
