At the start of this, the 4th Biig Ten Season for Dick Pitino: his Big Ten Won Loss record stood at 16 W and 38 L...or a .296 w/l percentage . Congratulations to Dick on what has proved to be his BEST Big Ten Season to date. He is insured of a .500 Big Ten W/L season in his 4th year at the helm. He was at the bottom of the list of full time Men's Hoops coaches at the start of this season with his .296 mark with 0.500 single seasons and a record of 16W and 38L He is busy changing that picture. The only thing to really mar the Big Ten season this year was the unfortunate 5 Conference Game Losing string. Win two...or three of those games and the Coach would be competing for a Big Ten Championship THIS season. That is turning out to be a bitter reminder of what COULD have been With a down Indiana, MSU,iowa, and a few other programs. But...what goes up comes down and what goes down comes up in any given year. And so it always seems to go...

Comparing him to other coaches of this past half century:
Tubby: .426 with 2 .500 single seasons and a Big Ten Record of 45W and 62L
Monson: .393 with 3 .500 single seasons and a Big Ten Record of 44W and 68
Clem: .381 with 3 ,500 single seasons and a Big Ten record of 48W and 78L

(allowed by the U of M/Conference & NCAA by the time penalties and and sanctions and forfeits had been applied Clem could have been a contender if they would not have found out about his secret formula for success.)

Dutcher: .444 with 5 .500 or better seasons and a Big Ten Record of 83W and 104L
Musselman: .683 with 3 .500 or better seasons and a Big Ten record of 38W and 22L
Kundla: .552 with 67W and 57L

COACH DICK PITINO is having an OUTSTANDING 2016/2017 Big Ten season in this , his 4th year at the helm. As of this date in time he has a 10 6 Big Ten record going. This has propelled his Big Ten W/L Percentage win mark to .371 and he has 26W and 44L. He will have his FIRST plus .500 Conference win season. These marks are current with 2 Big Ten Games remaining, plus the Big Ten Conference Tournament.

Gopher Hoops fans are rightly excited. Being .371 in conference play tonight IS an improvement for Coach Dick Pitino. It represents progress. It is an EXACT ranking of how he has done in ALL of his Big Ten games at Minnesota, ALL of his recruiting success. ALL of his coaching abilities and he has the chance to improve it even MORE through the remainder of this season.

Big Ten WINS matter.

Congratulations to Coach Dick Pitnio on what IS turning into his BEST Coaching season here at the University of Minnesota to date.

Each Big Ten WIN will help his grade. Every Big Ten LOSS detracts from his standings in the ranks of over half a century of Men's Hoops Coaches at the University of Minnesota. EVERY Conference win counts!: Good job this year Coach Dick Pitino. Best wishes for the remainder of the season.
