There was a lot of movement with Minnesota basketball prospects Tuesday evening. Honestly, none of it was good news for the Gophers, but in retrospect, this will add clarity to the Minnesota recruiting class as they zero in on their main recruits.
The toughest pill to swallow was Austin Crowley's commitment to Vanderbilt. He took an official visit to Nashville this past weekend. He had another scheduled to Minnesota Thursday and Ole Miss the following weekend. He had planned on making his official announcement on September 14.
The timing was surprising on the commitment. We were all expecting him to take all three visits. Kyle Lindsted was part of the Sunrise Christian family, and Crowley lives in Mississippi. I thought this one was wide open, and Minnesota has good of shot as any, but as we said, this allows Richard Pitino to move on.
Another wing they probably will not be chasing is Harlond Beverly of Michigan. I spoke with him tonight. Even despite holding a Minnesota offer, he told us that he is hearing very little from the coaching staff, and Minnesota is not one of the schools in the head of his list.
Finally, P.J. Fuller picked up a Minnesota offer over the summer. He is one of the few players we haven't spoken to. He moved to Findlay Prep in Las Vegas recently and getting in touch with him is nearly impossible.
Fuller announced his final eight this afternoon: Texas Tech, UNLV, Florida State, Florida, Washington, TCU, Iowa State, and St. Mary's.
Now Pitino and his staff will focus on its upcoming visits. Luke Anderson will be on campus on September 8 followed by David Roddy on September 15, and Jared Jones on October 6, and Yavuz Gultekin on October 27. The coaches are hoping to get a September 29 visit nailed down with Tray Jackson.
