Five Gopher volleyball players have put their names into the Transfer Portal for volleyball. Four of them are back up players who probably want more playing time for their final two years.. Two of the four were part of the #4 recruiting class of 2017. #17 Jazz Martin played behind our starting outside hitters who will return in 2019. #69 Sara Nielsen played behind our All-American setter for two tears, and now would be behind our transfer setter from UCLA, who was #11 recruit in the class of 2016. The Gophers have oral commitments for next year from recruits who will probably be among the top five recruits in the country, so the back ups would probably not start in 2020. The fifth probable transfer is Lauren Barnes, who started as a defensive specialist last year, but was benind CC McGraw, who was our starting libero. Both Lauren Barnes and CC McGraw were chosen as liberos for US National teams for college players. Only one can play libero for Minnesota next year, and Barnes probably wants to start as a libero if she wants a professional contract afer gradustes. Some of the posters on Volleytalk think Hugh will have to give his back ups more playing time in the future.
