Here's where it pools -- at least in Minnesota. (Big hit on the Carlson Co's...) (From The MSP Business Journal & Forbes)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cargill/MacMillan clan is the richest in Minnesota and the fourth-wealthiest family in the U.S, according to the latest rankings from Forbes.

Forbes valued the dynasty behind Wayzata-based agrigiant Cargill Inc. at $45 billion.

The Carlson family, whose Minnetonka-based Carlson operates hundreds of hotels, plunged from a $10.3 billion valuation in 2014 to just $2.2 billion this year. That dropped them from No. 21 to a four-way tie for 122.

The seven Minnesota families on last year's list all returned in 2015. Here's where they ranked and how their fortunes grew or shrank:

  • No. 4: The Cargill/MacMillan family, valued at $45 billion, has an estimated 23 members. (2014: $43 billion)
  • No. 75 (two-way tie): The Pohlad family's 20 members are said to be worth $3.8 billion for their varied business ventures, which includes Minneapolis-based Pohlad Cos., the Minnesota Twins, car dealerships and real estate groups like United Properties. The Pohlads are tied with the Nordstrom family. (2014: $3.6 billion)
  • No. 122 (four-way tie): The Carlson family's nine members are valued at $2.2 billion (2014: $10.3 billion)
  • No. 149 (eight-way tie): Mark Davis' family, which owns Le Sueur-based Davisco Foods International Inc. and Cambria Holdings and Mendota Heights-based Sun Country Airlines, is valued at $1.7 billion and has seven members. (2014: $1.7 billion)
  • No. 149 (eight-way tie): The Weyerhaeuser family also has a $1.7 billion valuation, with 250 members that owe their wealth to the St. Paul-based timberland owner Weyerhaeuser Co. (2014: $1.7 billion)
  • No. 157 (six-way tie): Coming in with a $1.6 billion net worth is the 92-person family of Gov. Mark Dayton, whose lineage owes its fortune to the success of Minneapolis-based Target Corp. (2014: $1.4 billion)
  • No. 191 (two-way tie): The Rosen family has a $1.25 billion valuation from the Fairmont-based food processor company Rosen's Diversified Inc. Forbes estimated the family's size at five people. (2014: $1.3 billion)
