We all want QBs to be winners.. We would all want the next Tom Brady or Joe Montana. Except maybe bigger stronger faster with a bigger arm.. Good at reading defenses.. Cool under pressure.. So which trait is most important to you in a good QB??? Could you explain why you feel that way??
SIZE - A guy that can see his receivers easily, can see over his line, possibly run over defenders when he tucks it away, can absorb a hit with a reduced chance of injury
ARM STRENGTH - All D1 QBs can make all the throws but this would be a guy that can really throw it with velocity on the out routes and deep routes.
MOBILITY - A guy that can move away from the rush and can tuck it away as an effective part of the run game.
POISE - Cool under pressure. Does not get caught up in the moment. Focuses himself and the team in crucial moments.
FIELD VISION/ABILITY TO READ DEFENSES - QB play is a game of big decisions. Can he successfully pick the right receiver to throw the ball??.. Can he audible to the right play??
TOUCH ON THE PASS - Does he put the right velocity on the ball at the right time??
LEADERSHIP - Does he sacrifice for the better of the team?? Does he make himself an example of the best traits that a coach would want?? Do teammates look up to him?? Does he communicate with fellow players and coaches well?? Does he expect accountability for his teammates and himself?? Does he look to help bring out the best in teammates, taking into account personality, need, and circumstance???.. Encourage and chastise when need be???.
PREPARATION - The ability to know his own playbook well..The ability to get ready to play the next opponent..Adapt to trends of the opposing defense both before and during the game...Plan well with the available teammates he has for the next game.
Not only what is most important but what do you think is ESSENTIAL in a good QB???
