At Rivals.com a person can look up recruiting rankings nationally and within the B10 going back to 2002. I've looked up the results for the five years in which Kill-Claeys had full recruiting classes--from 2012 through 2016.
During those five years, the fifth best class in the B10 consisted of one that had (typically) 19 recruits with an average rating of 2.95 per recruit. Such a class seldom had a five star recruit and had an average of six four-star recruits. Nebraska's program is the one that most often ranked fifth in B10 recruiting in those years and such classes usually finished just below the top 40 nationally. Wisconsin and Michigan State had the results most similar to those of Nebraska.
Gopher classes over the five years examined usually finished about 10th in the conference and 59th nationally with an average rating of 2.7 per recruit. T.J. Fleck's first class doesn't look that bad in comparison at 12th in the B10 and 60th nationally with an average rating of 2.6 per recruit. Since this was as much or more a WMU class as a Minnesota one, there is every likelihood the Gophers will do much better this year than last year. If the Gophers started recruiting as well as Nebraska, Michigan State or Wisconsin would its fans be satisfied? I certainly would.
