For the second time in the last couple weeks, an elite MN wrestler has committed to IA. First it was 2020 #2 Patrick Kennedy (Kasson-Mantorville), this time it's 2019 #32 Zach Glazier (Albert Lea). MN was recruiting Glazier, and was in his final five, but IA won out. As with Patrick Kennedy, this was a case of both of them wanting to wrestle for IA since they were young kids. “Since I was little I've always dreamed of being a Hawkeye and wrestling in Carver. “ - Glazier.

I do think that MN wanted Glazier, but how do we compete with this fixation that some HS kids have about wrestling for IA?? IA is still a "destination" for HS wrestlers, and while MN used to be, we are aiming to make it a destination again.

Glazier projects at 184#s in college, where we already have RS Sophomore Dylan Anderson, Senior Brandon Krone and Sophomore Owen Webster...and since Webster was injured early in the year, he may get an extra year of eligibility. Still, Glazier would have been a good get.

I'm really hoping that we get some elite 2019 and early 2020 commits soon so we can take advantage of our elite 2018 class, and start setting us up for being competitive at the team level for 2020!! We have a lot to offer with the new facilities that will be ready for this season!

C'mon Coach Eggum, the time is now!!!

Iowa has picked up their first commitment from the crop of rising seniors. Just a few days before coaches can begin making in-home visits, Zach Glazier verballed to the Hawkeyes.

Glazier chose Iowa over a final five that included Minnesota, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and Purdue.

This makes the second big commit from the Minnesota Elite club in just a week's time. Patrick Kennedy, a rising junior, also made the decision to wrestle for the Black and Gold in college.

According to Glazier, he feels he should be a 184 at the Division 1 level, and that he has the frame to fill out to that weight. About his decision to head to Iowa City after high school, Glazier told FloWrestling the following:

Since I was little I've always dreamed of being a Hawkeye and wrestling in Carver. I really like the coaches and felt I connected well with everyone there. I think Iowa is the best place I can be to achieve my goals.

Currently ranked fourth at 170lbs, Glazier won his first state title this past season, going 47-1 for Albert Lea high school. Before the season, he beat Peyton Robb in the finals of the JJ Classic. Last year, he was second at the AA tournament and ended up 41-5. He also placed fourth as a freshman and third as an eighth grader.

Heading into his senior year, Glazier comes in at No. 32 on the Class of 2019 Big Board. Most recently, he placed fifth in a loaded 80kg bracket in Akron, and helped Minnesota to a runner-up finish in freestyle at Junior Duals. Last July in Fargo, he finished fifth at 160lbs. Hawkeye fans can watch him try to win a stop sign in Fargo in just a few weeks, LIVE on Flo.
