Well Gopher Wrestling fans, our 2020/2021 season is finally here!!! The B1G and MN announced the 2021 schedule yesterday, and it starts on Jan. 8th at NE, a week from today!

We will have only conference events this year, with 5 dual meets and two Tri-meets. Then in early March, the B1G Championships are at PSU, and two weeks later the Natty's are in St. Louis.

I'm super excited about our new season over the next 2 1/2 months, it's going to be fun!!!

I'll do a separate thread about our starting line-up tomorrow.

The University of Minnesota wrestling program has announced its 2021 schedule, which will consist of five dual meets and two tri-meets. Times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date. All home dual meets will be held at Maturi Pavilion.

The Golden Gophers open the season on the road in consecutive weeks beginning on Friday, January 8 against Nebraska. Minnesota will travel to East Lansing, Mich., to face Michigan State and Maryland on Saturday, January 16.

In the first of three home duals, the Golden Gophers and Iowa Hawkeyes will renew one of college wrestling's great rivalries on Friday, January 22 at Maturi Pavilion.

Following a tri-dual with Purdue and Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J., on Sunday, January 31, Minnesota will close out the regular season with two of its final three matches at home. The Golden Gophers will host Illinois on February 5 and Northwestern on February 21. In between, Minnesota will head to Madison to face Wisconsin on Friday, February 12.

The Big Ten Championships are scheduled for March 6-7 at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa. The 2021 NCAA Championships will be held at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, March 18-20.

The Golden Gophers enter the 2021 season with seven starters and two All-Americans returning from 2020. Junior heavyweight Gable Steveson is the defending Big Ten Champion and Minnesota's all-time win percentage leader with a 50-2 record (.962). Sophomore Brayton Lee earned All-America honors after finishing fourth at the Big Ten Championships and posting a 25-6 record as a redshirt freshman.

Based on recommendations from local health officials and guidelines in place on the state and local levels, there will be a drastic reduction in the number of spectators permitted to attend Gopher sporting events. Current guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health specify that venues are required to be closed to members of the public.
