Football ***FLECK PRESSER: WISCONSIN WEEK***

- Says AK is better in certain areas, but needs to get better in other areas
- Thinks everything has gotten maintained or better in his overall game
- When you play two of the top teams in the country, it exposes you and what you can't do well

- Wisconsin is one of the most storied rivalries in college football
- Worked under Luke Fickell when he was a GA
- Their QB presents an unpredictable element, great athlete
- Different defensively than they used to be
- They have a lot of experienced football players

- Tyler Stolsky has taken advantage of his opportunity
- Playing before he should, that's on me
- He plays special teams at a high level

- Had players transfer in April, and it's harder to replace those guys that late
- Always want a 1:1 ration - transfer out, get a transfer in
- Learned things this year that I'll apply next year that are different
- Mentions NIL as a part of the portal process, depth as well
- Needs to be better at roster management

- Seniors have accomplished so much from their time here
- Mentions Chris Autman-Bell and everything he's seen

What makes a successful season?

If the Gophers beat WI next week would you call it a successful season after beating Iowa and Nebraska in the same year also? Fleck was brought here to defeat these programs and if we beat WI next week it will be the first time we have the Pig and Axe in the same season since 1991. We would be 6-6 and going to some lower tier bowl, does a bowl victory matter?

Football ***FLECK POSTGAME: OHIO STATE***

- Outmatched, outcoached
- Gotta be way better
- Didn't make enough plays, been the story of the year
- Too inconsistent
- Mentions players playing that aren't suppose to be playing
- Credits Ohio State and how they play and recruit
- Were in the game until the 75-yard touchdown run
- Went down the depth chart again as well, but no excuses
- Glad guys are getting that type of experience, no other options right now
- Time isn't right now for some of them, but proud of them playing their tails off

- Made pretty good holes at times
- Had a few drops
- Inconsistent throws
- Feel down at times without getting tackle

- 13-0 at halftime, felt they controlled field position in where they wanted to go
- Got out of hand in the third quarter after the turnover (AK fumble, sack)
- Personnel things that we have to be able to figure, starts with him

- On 4th and 5 play calls: why not pin them down, defense was playing well, and there is always a possibility a mistake can happen
- My job is to manage the game to always keep my team in the game

- There are times AK looks uncomfortable in the pocket
- Needed to give him more time in the pocket though
- Played one of the best front fours in the country

- Says it's a new age of college football and they need to find ways to add depth through the portal and recruiting (i.e. NIL money)
- Wisconsin is the most important game of the season (bowl eligible with win for Minnesota)

Basketball GAME THREAD: Gophers vs. USC Upstate

I have been one of few here who was optimistic going into this season. I felt that the NIT was the expectation. And thus far my optimism has been warranted. Sure the guys stunk it up the last 10 minutes against Mizzou but have been solid up to that point. Lots of very exciting stuff going on.

The guys will learn from the meltdown and keep on improving. If they can play like they did for 30 minutes against Mizzou then a NCAA bid is a possibility.

Excited to watch them again today. Will the guys come out with confidence or show some hangover? UPSC has some decent players so we need to get back on track.

Gophers get a much needed W by 18.

WORST ARTICLE EVER BY SOUHA

The article Souhan wrote today in the Star Tribune is the WORST article I have ever read by a sports journalist:
1) The vast majority of the words Souhan writes in his article are about other head coaches in Minnesota. One would think that due to these head coaches Minnesota sports fans have relished winning Super Bowls, World Series Championships, NBA titles and more.
2) Souhan writes 7 paragraphs in his entire article about PJ Fleck. The first one is the only “kind of positive” paragraph. It’s about the successful 2019 season, but, he even then, he negates any positivity by ending the paragraph with “Those Victories elevated expectations. He has not met them.”
3) Souhan writes 2 paragraphs about the 2022 season. The Gophers won 9 games and won their bowl game. But, that wasn’t a good season in Souhan’s eyes.
4) Now Souhan is down to basically 4 negative paragraphs about PJ Fleck. One mediocre season and the “sky is falling” for the Gopher football program. Guess that’s why Souhan could only come up with 4 negative paragraphs.
5) Prior to this season, PJ Fleck’s .614 winning percentage was the 3rd best among the 11 Minnesota head coaches with at least 45 games under their helm behind only Henry Williams and Bernie Bierman. PJ Fleck and Henry Williams are the only two Gopher head football coaches in history to record nine or more wins in a seasons twice. Fleck’s 11 wins in 2019 were the most for a Gopher football team since Williams 13 win season in 1904.
6) Prior to this season, PJ Fleck has averaged more wins per season compared to any Gopher head football coach in history (not including the shortened pandemic season) and that number is 8 wins per season.
7) Sorry, Mr. Souhan, but, you just wrote the worst article ever written in the history of sports journalism.
