Will Fleck ever be able to out-recruit...

one or more of OSU, MI, PSU, MSU, WI on a consistent basis?

Or will we be happy if he can simply approach these biggies annually?

Based on everything we have learned so far, it does seem like Minny should be in the mix with IA, NE and NW most years going forward, and generally above most of the rest of the BIG.

But really launching MN into the top recruiting tier might be an impossibly huge leap, even for a guy as ignited as Fleck.

Cultural Change

it has happen before.

Read this article about what TCU went thru and formation of the Committee of 100. The Committee change the school forever.

With everything The U already has to offer, there is no reason Minnesota shouldn't be in the top 20 or 10 every season

Anybody in the take it slow boat on Fleck with me

i want a winner as bad as anyone on the board. I've been half glass full on Gopher Football. One of the angriest on what Kaler and Coyle did, but now we have a new coach if you haven't heard. From perusing this board and a couple others fans seem to be foaming at the mouth with excitement. Clearly Fleck can motivate but the BS is deep. Hard to hear him say 2 sentences in a row without a Brewsterism. The recruiting flips are mostly a yawn. Happy to have them but you don't get much lower hanging fruit. What was Jerry Kill's old saying "I hear what you say.....,

Amir Coffey is B1G Freshman of the Week

Press release:

After helping lead the Gopher men’s basketball team to a pair of victories last week, guard Amir Coffey has been selected the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Coffey previously won the award on Nov. 21.

Coffey led the team in scoring in both victories at Northwestern on Thursday and at home against Ohio State Sunday night. Against the Wildcats, the Hopkins, Minn., native scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a career-high three 3-pointers. He added four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in the 70-66 victory in Evanston.

In Sunday’s 78-68 win over the Buckeyes, Coffey poured in 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting, adding five assists and four rebounds in 34 minutes of action.

Coffey is the Gophers’ second leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points per game, while ranking second in steals (20) and third in assists (47) among the 15-2 Gophers. In Minnesota’s four Big Ten games, Coffey is averaging 15.2 points on 51.2 percent field goal shooting, and has scored in double-digits in three of the last four games. Coffey is the Big Ten’s second-leading freshman scorer.

He is the second Gopher to win the Freshman of the Week award twice in one season, as Jordan Murphy did so last year on Dec. 7 and Dec. 22.

Coffey and the Gophers return to action on Wednesday night, traveling to Michigan State for a 6:00 p.m. rematch with the Spartans.

A shout out to our mods

It's been a heck of a 72-hour period from Fleck's press conference to all the flips from WMU to visits being lined up and a coaching staff to be filled out.

You guys did a hell of a job over the last few days keeping us in the loop to all the changes. It was a little slow on the recruiting front for a while, then things picked up in a hurry, and you guys were all over it.

Thank you. Great job, and Go Gophers!!

When was the last time you were this excited about Gopher the future of athletics?

Gopher football and basketball is on its way to becoming ELITE!

Pitino coached another solid game. Hoops team has a lot of young talent and Isaiah Washington and another shooter on the way...plus a loaded 2018 local class to pick from.

The energy around the football team will get the average fan interested. This is a movement like we haven't seen since Lou Holtz.

We've been through enough Gopher fans...cheers to you all and this time of excitement! Go Gophers!
