Football FLECK POSTGAME: MICHIGAN STATE

Summarizing what PJ Fleck said after Saturday's win:

- Loves that Morgan continues to work and get better (in regards to his key runs today)
- Morgan can find a way to gain 8 or 9 yards on 3rd down with his legs if he needs to
- 10-of-12 on third down, that's the story of the game

(Sorry there isn't more, caught the end of it)

Tanner Morgan:

- We have a lot of guys that can make plays for us, we saw that today
- Whoever is open, that's where I'm throwing the ball
- Ciarrocca has done a fantastic job of getting us in the right situations
- Feels he can move through progressions faster, need to continue to improve on it, but confident
- Operating fantastic today
- Stopped ourselves some today with penalties
- Proud of how hard our guys played today
- It's all about advancing the sticks and moving the ball
- If progressions don't look great, take off and move the ball
- It's a great opportunity to show my guys I'll give up my body to get a first down
- Got to celebrate Mo becoming the all-time leading TD leader in school history postgame
- Also celebrated the hard work they put into today's win

Justin Walley:

- Every week we emphasize turnovers, were able to get three

Mariano Sori-Marin:

- Each week we are going out there focusing on us and our game plan, no matter the opponent
- We got more turnovers today, which is something we talked about last week
- Always something to get better at
- We'll look at this film and find 1,000 things to work and get better at

Daniel Jackson:

- Our goal is to be consistent and execute the game plan, that's what we did today

GOPHER HOOPS: Maybe a different way of looking at the NOLAN WINTERS recruiting

I had a horrible weight lifting accident that has limited my ability to walk so I dont get out to see the HS kids like I used to do, during AAU season or even during the regular season of high school ball. But I still stay in contact with 5-6 guys that go on the road to watch these kids in tournaments, east of the Mississippi, like I used to do. These are guys that I am very confident of their basketball knowledge and ability to scout players. They all feel that Minnesota has already recruited over Nolan Winter and our fanbase will find that out.

I think that if Kadyn Betts stays healthy, he will be a much better player than Winter. Betts almost shoots the ball as well as Winter and is superior in all other phases of the game compared to Winter. Pharrell Payne is also going to be a heck of a player. If Minnesota does get Dennis Evans, my question to the fans of Nolan coming to Minnesota would be "WHERE WOULD NOLAN GET HIS MINUTES IF HE CAME TO MINNESOTA??"

Minnesota will start Dawson Garcia and Jameson Battle at forward with Pharrell Payne at center. Next season, when Nolan would have come in, Isaiah Ihnen would be coming back and ahead of Winter in all probability, as a backup 4. Parker Fox may factor in as well. Battle would start at the 3 with Betts and Olu Joseph off the bench. I dont think a lot of people know that Olu Joseph was playing as well as anyone from Minnesota in his last year in AAU. Payne with possibly Dennis Evans and Treyton Thompson behind. I know the response will be that Garcia and Battle could be good enough to leave for the NBA draft early.

You can imagine if WINTER sought counsel from outside the family that he would talk to his HS coach and former players of Lakeville. I am sure almost all would have given a glowing response about Wisconsin. Those points of influence outside of Dad and Mom would be strong for the Badgers. His playing time early would be better at Wisconsin than Minnesota, IMO.

Most of you who have read my posts know that my Mom went to Minnesota and I was born in St Paul, so I am a huge Gopher fan. My Dad wrestled at Wisconsin. The Badgers are the only game in town in Madison and lets face it, Wisconsin has a nice campus along the lakes there. The facilities are nice and not the hustle and bustle of the Twin Cities. So Wisconsin does have redeeming qualities though they are a hated rival of ours in sports. Nolan can develop in that system and he could do well at a program that does not stress athleticism as much as other programs. Nolan is also recovering from injury so he might need a program patient with him in that respect, as well.

I wish him the best though it does stink a potential legacy recruit would pick an archrival program of his parents. I wish Nolan the best and that he would experience nothing but losses to the hometown Gophers.

Football WHAT AREAS DO YOU THINK THE GOPHERS FOOTBALL TEAM NEEDS TO IMPROVE.

The short answer is everyone can improve.. I know.. But what is your opinion??

I still think we could do some work on the secondary. We got a couple of tipped passes on throws that Colorado could have had decent gains with receivers open.. I think our o-line and RB areas have been so strong. Maybe work a little bit more on the passing game though our games so far have dictated that we run the ball more. I am pleasantly surprised on how well the offensive line has looked.

When you outscore your opponents 149-17 after 3 games, it might be hard to identify areas to improve.. Ski-U-Mah!!!

Student debt forgiveness

Goofy Byeden is getting more goofy every day. He has no concept of how his decisions have a negative effect on the economy as well as inflation. Student debt forgivess is another example of horrible leadership and total lack of concern for the taxpayer. Now he wants blue collar workers to subsidize college students or drop outs. He fails to recognize or understand that almost all Americans have debt of some sort. Will he announce a plan to forgive home mortgages? Or car loans? The guy needs to be admitted to a dementia unit.

VOLLEYBALL: A recent history of success in the state of Minnesota

All of us want the Gophers to win the national title in volleyball. Minnesota has had a really tough schedule so far. We took it on the chin against #1 ranked Texas then had a rough last couple matches against Stanford and Pepperdine, both ranked programs. We have the talent to play with the best in the nation. Just need to put it all together and get hot.

What is interesting is that Minnesota is considered a national power in supplying HS players for hockey(both mens and womens) as well as wrestling and now basketball. What a lot of fans dont know is the strength of the volleyball in the state of Minnesota that supplies all levels of college.

The state of Minnesota has 4 colleges ranked in the top 10 in volleyball in Division 2, as of today. The premium program in the state of Minnesota and NATIONALLY in Division 2 is Concordia College in St. Paul.... They won 7 STRAIGHT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DIVISION 2 volleyball in the mid to late 2000s to the mid 2010s. And they have won it with players from Minnesota. This year's Concordia College volleyball team has all players from Minnesota except for 1.. And they are ranked 3rd in the nation.

Minnesota has elite AAU volleyball at the HS level. Certainly in the Northern Lights program but not just them. They have great coaches at the HS and small college level as well as for the Gophers. It is not hard to see why the Maturi Pavilion is packed to see the Gophers. There are some really knowledgeable volleyball fans in the state of Minnesota as well as an established tradition.

The Gophers have a lot of work to do to compete for a national title. This week is huge as we play Purdue on Friday and Wisconsin on Sunday. BIG BIG matches in the BIG TEN.... Support our Gophers by watching them on the Big Ten channel or getting out to see a game... GO GOPHERS!!!
