NW Game

Early weather forecasting a high of 42. Will we have 30k in the stands? Maybe a huge game for fan perception on the direction of this program. I think one more win clinches Claeys an extension but not sure a win vs NW moves the needle that much for the casual rube. Who knows, Coyle may have seen enough already either way.

What's more predictive of who we are as a team, our losses or wins?

There have been 100's and 100's of posts this year about the fact that we haven't beaten anybody that is good. Depending upon your definition of good, that is probably true. But the real question is what is more predictive of how good we are, those wins against bad teams, or the close losses against good teams?

In other words, are we closer to the teams that we are beating, or the teams we are losing to? Since Claeys has taken over, there have been 7 Big 10 losses to Michigan, Ohio St., Nebraska, Iowa, Penn St. and Wisconsin. Those teams either finished ranked last year, or are currently ranked: 4th, 9th, 9th, 12th, 19th, and 21st in the country. 3 of the losses were to ranked teams on the road at night, a very tough venue to win. Several have been winnable, but we haven't been able to close the deal. The average margin of loss in those 7 games? 7 fricken points. A touchdown, with many painfully going down to the last play. So are we closer to the teams that have beaten us, or closer to the teams we have beaten and are below us in the standings?

I would argue the former, and that is more predictive of how good this team has been. If Armstrong doesn't play last week or goes down in the 1st half, anybody question whether we would have pulled that one out? If Hardin is playing against Penn St., anybody think that may have made the difference. Did anybody this year believe (after watching the games) that Iowa, Nebraska, and Penn St. were in a different league than the Gophers? In fact, most were pissed that we didn't close the deal.

Now if we are trending the wrong way, and the team won't have this much talent going into the future, that is a different question, but I don't think we know that fact.

For those who think we need a coaching change

Please, please enlighten me on who was a proven track record and would come here. Don't spout out names that we could never get. As I posted elsewhere the only coaching changes that have helped here in the past 40 years was Holtz, Mason and Kill. All the rest were disasters. I think TC should get 1-2 more years. We do have a very young team and many of you never point that out.

Any thoughts on tonights mens basketball game with Mount St Marys??

School out of Maryland.. Picked in the middle of the pack in their conference(NEC). Play an incredibly tough schedule to begin their year as they have lost to West Virginia, who is ranked and Iowa State.. Will play Arkansas and Michigan as well as Texas Arlington. Head coach is young.. Last couple years have been a .500 team or just below. They have a 5-5 kid who has a vertical leap that is similar to Spud Webb, I have no idea what kind of ball player the 5-5 kid is for them... They have another guard and a wing that are decent, I also read.

On paper, this looks to be the weakest team we play in preconference but no one can ever be taken lightly.... I hope we grab this game by the throat early, then substitute liberally.. I would be disappointed if Hurt, Sharp, Gilbert, even Gaston do not see extended minutes in this game... Guys have to be focused to get a good lead early so we can get those reserves the PT.

I've been looking forward to this season since 2014,

With an easier schedule and 5th year senior QB I was sure that the Gophers would win the division this season.

I know many of you have also had this season circled for years.

I looked at my now retired Father, who hasn't seen the Gophers win a Big 10 title since he was in college, and I was so happy we would finally be able to share at least a division title, and possibly a Big 10 title.

Well, this team needed to win just one of those 3 close games but somehow lost them all.

Our receivers and QB aren't good.

This year hurts. I apologize if I've been a jacka$$ since the Nebraska game.

It's just that my Dad is 68---he's running out of time for the Gophers to turn it around.

Not saying that's an excuse for being a jerk.

Just saying this really sucks and for the first time since 2011 I am legitimately dreading the next couple Gopher games.

This fu%*#^~ sucks

The real stats on welfare vs. work in America

114 million Americans work full-time. 106 million Americans receive welfare.

In 1980, 1/3 of the federal budget was entitlements. Now it's 2/3. (This includes Social Security.)

For means-tested entitlements (welfare): In 1980, 18% of Americans received it. Now 35% receive it.

I won't get political and mention which party is in favor of all this welfare and bribes these people for votes. I just think that everyone should know the real numbers. The media buries this info.

Leidner stats

ESPN's TQBR (Total QB Rating) has him as the #82 quarterback both adjusted and not adjusted for strength of schedule. #101 passer, #46 runner.

I think he's better than the #82 QB in the country but he's limited by the WRs. We seem to have the worst WR corps in the Big Ten almost every year and this year is no different.

Star Tribune says he's not in any mock drafts other than one from Fansided...
"One recent mock draft by Fansided predicts Leidner will stay close to home after going to the Vikings in the fifth round of the NFL draft.
Sound crazy?
“Would adding a high-upside arm be the worst idea? I don’t think so,” Gil Alcaraz IV wrote. “Leidner has disappointed as a college quarterback, but there’s no denying his raw physical tools. He’s got the size, arm talent and athleticism to be an NFL signal caller, but needs some pro-caliber coaching. A year or two learning under the Vikings’ other quarterbacks could do wonders for his development.”

I looked it up and NFL Draft Scout has him as the #12 QB, Walter Football has him as the #20 QB, CBS Sports has him as the #17 QB and #321 overall. So probably out of the draft but could play his way into getting some more looks.
