Dupree McBrayer

  • Point guard was new so that might have played into the slow start.
  • Curry is going to be a great player. Great
Jordan Murphy
  • We came in with energy. They're a college team just like everyone else we play.
  • Curry has a higher IQ and is a better passer as a freshman than him.
Richard Pitino
  • Always find these games difficult because they're basically playing five guards.
  • Sharp gave us good minutes
  • Bakary hit Mason on a lose ball in practice
  • Eric was tremendous. "I think we got a steal there...future is extremely bright." Really good hands, long, good passer.
  • Still want Amir Coffey to be aggressive but did things well.
  • Hurt gave them the dimension they want from him with two 3s.
  • Lynch hasn't practiced much because of the injury.
  • Thinks the foul shooting and three-point shooting was due to nerves
  • Positives: 13 blocks, played hard, got to the foul line 32 times.
  • Expect Nate Mason to be back for the opener.
  • Didn't realize Curry was as good of a passer as he was.
  • Team is off Twitter for a few month. "It's just poison." Wants them to have a have a voice but he wants them to stay focused and not read everything said about them.

Interesting QB prospect...........Alex Huston

Alex Huston is a junior at Springfield Glendale HS in Missouri... His ONE SEASON...ONE SEASON... stats are 365-515 for 5790 yards.... 73 TD passes and 9 interceptions... Fastest prep QB to 10,000 yards passing(20 games) in the history of HS football.... 6-1 185 listed but probably just a tick under 6-0 in reality.

Huston lived in Kenton, Ohio and was poised to be the next prodigy of the spread offense of Mike Mauk at Kenton, who won 2 state titles with middle son, Ben, as the QB.. Ben held the national record for most passing yards until younger brother, Maty, took the record from him, also at Kenton.. Both Ben's and Maty's stories are well documented but Alex Huston wanted to be the next great one from the small town east of Lima, Ohio. Huston's family knew the Mauks from the time Alex was in elementary school...

In a move that was puzzling to some but, as nice as the Mauk family is, I agree with Kenton's school board decision to not renew Mike's contract. There was nothing bad sexually that happened nor with alcohol/drugs nor lawbreaking on Mike's part, but there was a definite difference of philosophy between Mauk and the school system that it was better if they parted ways, IMO. So the Mauk family knew Maty was headed to University of Missouri at the time and their daughter was already married and in the Springfield, Missouri area, as well. SO Mike Mauk looked to move to Missouri and applied for HS football jobs there. Mike has a ton of D1 college contacts and people knew what he had done with Kenton's football program, so finding a job in the area was no problem... Alex Huston's family found out right away that the Mauks were moving and were so convinced of Mike and Ben Mauk's coaching ability of their son that they moved from Kenton to find a place to live out in Springfield.... Alex's dad had been out of work in the area so it wasn't a hard decision to move as he had nothing to lose.

Once again, like at Kenton, Mauk's first season was not very good at 2-8 but 2 years later, they are 11-0 with a great chance at a state championship in Missouri.. Alex Huston leads them and has a strong arm and EXCELLENT technique as a QB.. Always has his eyes up and looking down field.. Footwork is very good... Ben Mauk is his offensive coordinator and Mike Mauk is the head coach... This is a kid that I think every program ought to take a look at, so I thought I would share it.

Nebby

Armstrong just took an awkward fall to the ground impacting the head, neck, and shoulder area OB and looks like he's in big trouble. Trainers working on him chin strap, jersey, possibly shoulder pads have been cut off by training staff. Cart is out. Father has been escorted to the field. Girlfriend crying. Looks like a freak accident, nothing really out of the norm when a player falls down other than bad landing.

Visitors are Bruce Judson, Bryson Jackson, Joshua Croslen, and Raheem Layne.
  • Judson is a South Florida commit and former Ohio State commit. The Gophers and Kentucky are both trying to flip him from South Florida. He's a small, compact, strong, and quick athlete that will likely play running back in college.
  • Bryson Jackson is the biggest linebacker target. He's been a Boise State lean but Minnesota thinks they have a chance to get him and they're certainly competitive.
  • Croslen of course is a defensive tackle commit.
  • Raheem Layne is a safety from Florida, and Minnesota is his only offer, so I'm sure the Gophers are his leader.
Garrison Wright moved to right guard.

Shannon Brooks is out with what I think is a hip flexor injury.

Isaiah Gentry is actually dressed and warming up.

Antonio Shenault is practicing with the first team, Hardin isn't.

Gophers in all maroon.

3 things I would like to see Saturday...

1) a couple plays where we get the ball into our playmakers hands in space. Love the power running game, but we need to create splash plays.

2) our LB's filling the gaps on running plays so we keep them under 3 or 4 yards per carry for the game.

3) our DB's not giving up 10 yards at the line of scrimmage. Purdue loves the slot quick cross, WR screen, and quick hitting passing routes. What we did the last quarter against the illini was beautiful. We need to keep that up.

What else do you want to see?

The bowl eligible Gophers versus the boilermakers looks to be another barn burner if you look at the history of the match up and the stats being put up so far this year by the boilermakers.

Not So Fast My Friend!

This game is close for 1 quarter. It's 7-7 to start the 2nd quarter, and then the game changes on a 40 yard fumble recovery for a TD by Celestin. From there, it's a route.

Halftime :

Gophers 24
purdue 14

The second half is a nice mix of play action and read option. The boilermaker offense gets yards but stumbles on 4th downs inside Gopher territory.

Final:

Gophers 38
purdue 21

What say y'all ?

55 has a WR Theory.......I shared it before

I am not making excuses for anyone's behavior but.......if you violate team rules you should pay for it

BUT!!!!!!

I want remind you guys of all the turnover and acting out we have seen with our wr's. Jones, Barker, Harbison......now Smith.....etc. 55 told y'all before because yall just focus on the kid. Bad kid.....

I think our WR's get frustrated and act out. We have seen no other position group experience the turnover we have seen at WR under Kill now Claeys,

correlation......we don't throw the ball much.

Read Maslow's hierarchy of needs before you attack 55. I've made this argument in the past......it is real. I think our WR's get frustrated and act out and aren't emotionally mature enough to understand what is happening to them. Our second leading reciever only has 17 catches (should be 19)
He drops two and snaps......cause each one is so precious he knows he may be done for the season.

seriously, We have seen some talented WR not even see the field.

This is not a racial issue cause Barker snapped too

Unfortunatly.....I think this trend will continue. Wr's want to do more than just block.

Johnson & Still.....How do we manage them emotionally moving forward?
If I'm crazy as you think, has there been any turnover in any other position group?

I'll hang up and listen.

Actually, ALL of Minnesota's National Championships have a Mississippi State origin...

Bernie Bierman ALSO spent time as the Head coach at Mississippi State in 1925 and 1926. This game has GREAT MEANING for the history of University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Football! There does need to be some sort of plaque or statement honoring our history with this SEC School.
