Some new info, and some repeat just in case anyone missed our last few updates this week.
With Houston not making a decision during his visit with Fleck, the clock starts ticking. Six days until signing day, and we’ll continue to have him on watch. The staff has just under a week to stay on him and convince him to hop in the Boat. Have heard about possible family reservations that could have to do with weather, and possibly looking for a closer school to home. As signing day gets closer, and if schools still aren’t telling him he has a spot, these thoughts could change in favor of Minnesota. Urgency, for his own good, is a big selling factor. I don’t mean that in a negative/pushy way at all, either. He likes Minnesota, and they want him. Other schools he may be interested in don’t have a guaranteed spot for him and may not come February, either. There’s the threat of waiting until February and going to a school that might not be your first, second, third, or even fourth choice.
They will be on him all week. He’s still on watch, and Minnesota is at the top of the list for him. If it gets past the week, and he opts to sign in February, Minnesota’s chances of getting Houston go down but I don’t think they’ll give up if it happens.
What’s next:
Minnesota got MJ Anderson to pledge back to the Gophers and that was high on their list of wants.
From here, we move to the next Gopher targets left on the board for defense. That would be DT Kristian Williams, and DE Darius Robinson. Kristian Williams, as Matt reported Monday seems to be making his decision in February. Darius Robinson is making his decision on December 19th. If Robinson opts to be a Gopher, Williams may no longer have a spot.
After talking to some sources, I think Minnesota is falling behind a bit for Robinson, but not out of it. Colorado is going through a coaching change and he won’t visit, Michigan wants him at tight end and it seems he wants to play defense. I think it’s a two-horse race between Minnesota and Missouri. He has avoided talking to media since he released his top group. A few FutureCasts were put in for Mizzou yesterday and was told it was due to them hearing other top schools having room. Don’t count Minnesota out.
Kristian Williams is signing in February. Expect Minnesota to stay on him through the next signing period. They’re happy with it now, and will be thrilled with their D-Line class if he decides to hop in with the current group.
Isaiah Hookfin is visiting Texas this weekend. All sources indicate the he’s going to pick Texas. Why has he delayed it this long if it’s such a sure thing? He had an offer from them in Early November. Minnesota and Baylor the other schools to watch if it turns out he is unable to commit to Texas. If that happens, I think Minnesota is in a good spot.
Two more notes:
Have been told that Vanderbilt TE commit Jeffrey Blake has heard from Minnesota as well, and he was on campus this past weekend. He wants to play defense in college, and Vandy wants him at TE so he’s looking around. I don’t believe he has a committable offer at this point, but he’s one to monitor.
Have been told that TJ Robinson to Rutgers is likely. Congrats to him for finding a good spot!
