A few weeks ago, Gopher Wrestling added Jared Krattiger as a transfer from WI!! Krattiger was a two year starter at WI and he will have three years of eligibility left for MN.
Krattiger had a 4-5 record last year and he placed 9th at the B1G at 174#s. This record doesn't sound so great, but he split matches with Jake Allar, who was a better than average B1G wrestler. Krattiger is improving and I think he can continue to improve a lot more in the near future. He's a decent starter, and as Allar has finished his Gopher career (he could have come back for another year but he's worn out from SO MANY INJURIES!!!), we can use another decent wrestler like Krattiger.
Jared Krattiger, welcome to Gopher Wrestling!!!
I promised cheddarwurst and others that I would do a thread on Eggum and recruiting after the season was over. I'll do that thread in the next few days, so you all can see how it's looking for us in the near future.

University of Minnesota head wrestling coach Brandon Eggum announced the addition of Jared Krattiger beginning with the 2021-22 season. The Waterford, Wis., native will join the Maroon and Gold after spending three seasons at the University of Wisconsin.
A two-year starter for the Badgers, Krattiger compiled a 13-22 record, including a 4-5 mark in 2021. Seeded 11th at Big Ten Championships this past March, he finished in ninth place. As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Krattiger started 13 of 17 matches for the Badgers and finished ninth at the Big Ten Championships. Krattiger went 10-2 during his redshirt season with titles at the 2018 Cyclone and Luther Opens.
A graduate of Waterford High School, Krattiger was a 2018 Wisconsin state champion and compiled a 192-5 prep record. He finished third as a junior and sophomore and placed fifth as a freshman. Krattiger was a 2016 Cadet Folkstyle national champion and Cadet Freestyle state champion.
Krattiger is projected to compete at 174 pounds as a redshirt junior for the Golden Gophers with three years of eligibility remaining.

Recently, Jared Krattiger announced that he would be taking his talents across the border to join Minnesota for the 2021-2022 season. The Waterford, Wis. native spent his first three collegiate seasons competing for B1G rival Wisconsin, where he compiled a 13-22 record, including a 9th-place finish at the B1G Tournament at 174 pounds last season.
Coming out of high school, Krattiger posted a 192-5 prep record, which includes becoming a 2018 WIAA State Champion as well as a four-time placewinner. Jared was also a 2016 Cadet Folkstyle national champion and a Cadet Freestyle state champion.
Now making his way to Dinkytown this fall, Jared is poised to make big strides in his first season in the Maroon & Gold, adding to an already experienced Gopher squad.
GopherSports: Right away, let's just talk about your decision to come to Minnesota. When you decided this off-season that you were going to transfer, what was it that excited you about Minnesota, and ultimately led you to decide to be a Gopher?
Jared Krattiger: I could just tell the culture of the team was vibrant. Everyone has a lot of energy, and the guys look like they want to win. Coach Brandvold was the one that recruited me at Madison, so there was a connection there, and I was excited to get back underneath him. I'm also just really excited about the school and the degree I'm going to go into, as well.
GS: You touched on it, but talk about your relationship with Coach Brandvold as well as the rest of the coaching staff and how that influenced your decision.
JK: Yeah, [Coach Brandvold] recruited me in high school like I said, and he introduced me to the rest of the coaching staff and I really kicked it off with them as well. They're really great people, very down to earth and welcoming. They made the decision a lot easier for me.
GS: Now coming to Minnesota, you'll have up to three years of eligibility remaining in your college career, so still a lot of time to accomplish whatever goals you might have. Just speak about some of those goals and what expectations you have for yourself here in Minnesota.
JK: Yeah, I'm excited. I'm hoping to be on the national title team with these guys, and as an individual, I want to become an All-American. Of course I want to win an individual title too, but right now I'm really focused on earning that All-American status.
GS: Wrestling your first couple of seasons in the B1G, you've had the opportunity to wrestle some of the best guys that the sport has to offer, and you've said in the past that you love wrestling against the best guys. How do you think that experience has helped you now leading into your time here at Minnesota and the rest of your career?
JK: I think that I left Madison on a mission to keep getting better. I don't care what happens, but I don't want to regret anything and I know here at Minnesota, I'll be able to achieve my goals, I'll be able to push myself and be challenged here. I'll be able to compete against the best week-in and week-out. It's not always going to be easy, but it's going to be what helps me grow.
GS: Obviously, last season proved to be a season like none other, with a shortened schedule, and a lot of extra unknowns due to COVID-19. Were there any difficulties that you found last season, and are you excited to hopefully get back to a normal schedule this upcoming season?
JK: I would say actually that last year was my better year in the lineup at Madison. I was shaken up a bit at the B1G Tournament, but in the dual season, I felt pretty good. I lost a few matches, but I felt that I was getting better. What was difficult though was not wrestling against other conferences, and getting those extra matches in. So this year, that's what I'm excited about the most is getting more matches in and more opportunities to build my resume for the NCAA Tournament.
GS: Another exciting thing about the Gopher program is that while there is a lot of experience in our lineup, it is also a very young team. Does that excite you at all knowing that you have the chance to be a part of building and becoming a national contender here at Minnesota?
JK: Right, when I came here I thought there would be more seniors, but I like that there's a lot of guys in my age group, and a lot of guys within that group that want to win. Especially in my weight range, there are a lot of hungry guys that are gonna push me in the wrestling room, so I'm excited for that.
GS: Of course, this move is still very recent, but have you had an opportunity to speak with any of the guys on the roster, and if so, what have they had to say?
JK: Yeah, I've visited a few times with Garrett Joles and Keaton Kluever, and the one thing that I've noticed is that they are all committed from what I can see. I've been able to meet a lot of the other guys briefly, and they're all putting the time in, they're all giving extra effort and I'm excited to be a part of that.
GS: To the Gopher Wrestling fans, describe your wrestling style and what you would say to them about what they should expect once they see you in the lineup?
JK: I have a lot of short offense, I'm a hard hand-fighter, I like to get in there and scrap, I like to get after it, but I also think I'm a diverse wrestler that can scramble and wrestle out of funky positions. I've wrestled a lot with my club coach Ben Askren and he's taught me a lot of stuff that's different from what I grew up with, so I think he's helped me become a more diversified wrestler.
GS: Expanding on your club team back home, just talk about what your off-season has looked like this summer.
JK: Yeah, I've been wrestling a lot with some other club guys back home, and my goal is to just get better in every area. I don't think I'm the best in anything right now, so I'm hard-focused on becoming better in every area that I can leading up to the season.
GS: Hopefully this upcoming season will welcome the return of fans into Maturi Pavilion, and especially competing for a storied program such as Minnesota that has such a deep fan-base, how excited are you to compete in front of the fans, and have the energy of the crowd for a home dual again?
JK: It's gonna be awesome, I'm really excited for that. My first dual was actually at Minnesota, and it was packed there. The fans were loud and I remember thinking how great of an environment it was in there. I'm excited to have everyone back, and being able to meet the fans and donors and become part of the community that they've built here in Minnesota.
