Minnesota players at SDSU and NDSU

With SDSU and NDSU facing off in the FCS title game, I was curious to check their rosters to see how many players from Minnesota they have, and how many from their home states.

SDSU has 10 players from Minnesota, and 28 from South Dakota

NDSU has 35 Minnesotans, and only 18 North Dakotans

Although I didn't count them, both teams have pretty decent representation from Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska as well

Football Recruiting Recruiting Rouser Quick notes (12/19)

Would've loved to turn this into a story but as you can imagine, I've been super busy the last few days so let's just do this in quick note form.

- Wow, have the Gophers flipped the table when it comes to their wide receiver room. Entering the postseason/offseason that was a wide receiver room that really didn't strike fear in anyone and while it's still not an overpowering room, it's a room that now has quite a bit of high upside talent. I believe Crooms and Spencer will step in and be immediate impact players Chris Autman-Bell and Brevyn Spann-Ford ford next season, there's not many Big Ten programs that I think could match those four especially in the Big Ten West. Flipping McWilliams and Lanier are also fantastic additions - both may never be true "stars" at the collegiate level but I think both could be high production players as long as the quarterback play is solid.

- The addition of Jack Henderson is another big one of course, I expect him to be the starting safety next to Tyler Nubin in the spring. Henderson may not be an "elite" safety at the FBS level like he was at the FCS level but I think he'll be a strong addition for the Gophers which at worse strengthens the depth at the position.

- I'll repeat again, Phillip Daniels will announce a commitment on Wednesday when he signs...my FutureCast is currently set for the Gophers and I still feel strongly about that pick.

- I expect as of right now for everyone except Zaquan Bryan who previously informed TGR that he wouldn't be signing to sign on Wednesday. Additionally, I don't think there was ever really a true chance the Gophers would lose the commitment of Darius Taylor. Michigan wanted him as a DB and offered way too late and Burns leaving for Kent State was never going to be a huge impact, yes losing the position coach you committed to can change recruitments at times but I believe the Gophers were pretty up front with that anyways.

- I will never say never but I think the Gophers are likely done at wide receiver now with their recent run. Jaelen Smith remains uncommitted but could make a decision in the upcoming days...

- With Zach Durfee headed elsewhere, the Gophers will need to find anew top target on the defensive line. I know a lot of people liked what Durfee could bring to the table but I'm not so sure he was going to be that big of an upgrade over what the Gophers currently have. The jump from Sioux Falls to the Big Ten is quite a big one. Gophers would've loved to have him, he would've been a strong addition but in my respectful opinion, not the biggest loss.- I'm hearing good things on UNC transfer Chris Collins on the DL front.

-I'll have more notes if I learn anything as the day goes on, I'll answer any questions as well.

Football Recruiting COMMITMENT: UNC DL TRANSFER CHRIS COLLINS

Note to self: Don't leave computer again. But I guess, you guys would like me to since every time I do, Minnesota picks up a commitment.

Football Recruiting COMMITMENT NO.3 OF THE DAY: S JACK HENDERSON

I said coming into the weekend I felt good about their chances to land both Elijah Spencer and Jack Henderson.... well, Minnesota picked up both today.

Football Recruiting Class of 2024 content

Hey everyone, the 2024 recruiting cycle will be the first that I'm here for from "start to finish" so I was wondering as we slowly move into the new cycle following the early signing period while the Gophers put the finishing touches on their 2023 class, what are some types of content you would like to see on a regular basis outside of normal updates and interviews. Anything specific?

Football Recruiting OFFICIAL VISITORS: WEEKEND OF DEC. 16TH

Here are the expected official visitors that will be in town this weekend:

TRANSFERS:

Elijah Spencer, WR, Charlotte - C-USA freshman of the year in 2021. Has tallied 85 catches for 1,324 yards and 15 touchdowns the last two seasons.

Jack Henderson, DB, Southeastern Louisiana - Picked up a Minnesota offer earlier this week. The Louisiana native also has offers from Louisiana Tech and Colorado State. All-Southland player that totaled 82 tackles, 2 INT, 2 sacks, and 2 FF's during his career.

Chris Collins, DE, North Carolina - Graduate transfer with loads of experience. Totaled 68 tackles, 12.5 TFL, and six sacks during his career.

HS VISITORS:

Kenric Lanier, WR, Decatur (Ga.) - Current Vanderbilt commitment. This is a big one as Lanier took an official with the Commodores last weekend and is still expected at Minnesota this weekend. The rising three-star was in Minneapolis earlier this season for the Iowa game. Will be interesting to see if the Gophers' staff can get him the flip.

TJ McWilliams, WR, North Central (Ind.) - Current Purdue commitment. Obviously, the Boilers are going through a coaching transition, but it's obvious the three-star is wanting to keep his option open. Purdue had an in-home visit with him earlier this week. However, his position coach at Purdue, Garrick McGee, is heading to Louisville with Jeff Brohm.

Matt Kingsbury, LB, St. Rita (Ill.) - Has 27 offers from pretty much all the MAC schools along with Navy, Army, and Air Force. Doesn't have an offer from Minnesota, but could pick one up during his visit as these things typically happen. Minnesota's top remaining LB target, Asa Newsom, is taking an official visit to Kentucky this weekend. Depending on how things play out with Newsom, could see Kingsbury being a fall back option.

Fleck holla at me. 55 has cracked the code.

Fleck you need a new mentor. He says Greg Schiano is your main mentor. Taught you everything you know about footbal.

Football Recruiting Two quick transfer portal tidbits (12/17)

I am on the road this weekend so didn’t get to put up a story that being said some quick notes….

- S Zach Henderson I would be surprised if he isn’t part of this class for the Gophers. Getting a visit this close to signing day is crucial, would be a solid pickup and someone who can start right away.

- I also think they sit in a very good spot for Charlotte WR Elijah Spencer, think there’s a high chance he signs with them as well but I’m not certain of his plans when it comes to signing.
