Sorry for being on the later side today but here's today's notes on the official visits this weekend and the Gophers are looking for help in the secondary in the transfer portal...

Former Oklahoma freshman dual threat 4-star QB Nick Evers (2022 recruit) is currently visiting Madison.


Looks like he would be an upgrade from Mertz, and a fit for Fickell's offense, with 4 years remaining eligibility.

Usually I defend the coaching staff but on one issue, I will put this on Ben and staff if I don't see this changing soon. GETTING MOTION AND PASSING ON OFFENSIVE SETS.!! Way too much dribbling. I think I would tell Cooper to start passing the ball as soon as an offensive set is called, and I would work on player and ball motion in practice. We have not made an opposing defense uncomfortable yet as we have too many guys standing around on offense while one player is dribbling.. It then passes on to guys like Jameson Battle who dont get any easy looks because the opposing defense is set when he shoots it.

ANY TEAM SPORT WITH TEAM DEFENSE works the same way. Get the opponent's defense to move to positions where it is advantageous to your offense. We are not doing that, right now. We arent going to win games unless this gets corrected.

Cooper is shooting the ball decent for us but is playing terrible defense and not showing any offensive leadership as a PG. IF COOPER DOES NOT COMPLY, I would go to the bench with Samuels. If that doesnt work, I would bring one of the younger guards out high to start the offense. Someone that gets the ball moving and shows leadership by moving off the ball and getting others to do the same. I would go down to the walkons just to get that to happen if all else fails.

Ben needs to get control of his team offensively. His post game press conferences have indicated he is aware of the problem.. Now he has to get serious with his guys to get that out of the team at least, THERE IS NO WAY THEY ARE GOING TO PLAY WINNING BASKETBALL with the lack of player movement and ball movement we are showing now.

It is the Gophers' first matchup against a SWAC team since 2017, when they defeated Alabama A&M 100-57. Minnesota is 9-0 all-time against SWAC opponents.

Bryan, now a two-time state champion, shares the latest on his Minnesota commitment, relationships with the staff, and more.

Bishop McDevitt won a PA state title yesterday, its first since 1995, 41-18 over Aliquippa H. S. No stats on Williams yet, but his QB, Stone Saunders (2025), threw 5 TD passes.

Minnesota has offered sophomore QB Saunders, along with 16 other programs to date. He is not yet ranked by Rivals or 247.

Walters, 36, has been the DC of a highly effective Illinois defense under Bielema. Initial read of some Illini fans is being underwhelmed, and wondering what will happen to the high octane offense Brohm ran at Purdue. Is there a Brohm offensive disciple he can bring in as OC?

Lanier told me he is planning to visit Minnesota this weekend. The three-star WR is coming off an official visit to Vanderbilt this past weekend, where he has been committed since June. However, the Gophers have been making a strong push as well with a recent in-home visit and are hoping to flip the talented pass-catcher leading into the early signing period. It's Tuesday, so a lot could change heading into the weekend, but as of yesterday, Lanier was planning to visit Minnesota.

Keegan Cook is a good young coach.. Only 37 years of age but a wealth of coaching experience(15 years total). He led University of Washington to a few Elite 8's and 1 Final Four. He has coaching experience at the high school, college, and international levels. His wife is a former pro volleyball player. Got one young child. What I understand, he grew up and lived with the sport as his family was always involved in volleyball. Known as much for his holistic approach in developing student athletes. I do know his athletes loved him as a coach. I am now praying that we keep our players together and add to a successful legacy of Gopher volleyball.. Welcome Keegan!!!!!

There's a new Coach's Corner out today where Brandon Eggum discusses the Big Win Over OKSU last weekend, and the three events of this weekend!!!

On Friday night MN travels to take on NDSU at 7pm and this dual is streamed on NDSU All Access. Then we fly to San Luis Obispo, CA for two duals on Sunday with Cal Poly and Lindenwood. Our guys get a little time in the sun before flying back to MN on Monday!!

Normally an introvert, longtime offensive line commit Jerome Williams found himself feeling extremely comfortable at Minnesota, and estimates he visited nearly 40 times throughout the last year and a half.

Gophers beat Wisconsin 7-1 in the first game of two.

Only the 3rd time in the last 30+ years that at least one Big Ten team has not made the Final Four in the NCAA volleyball tournament. I dont think its because volleyball has gotten worse in the Big Ten.. I do, however, think there has been a rise in skill and talent in volleyball, all over the nation. Texas, Pitt, San Diego, and Louisville are the Final 4 teams this year.

Nebraska kinda lost their way when Kenzie Knuckles went down with a season ending injury. Pitt just played very well against Wisconsin last night. We had a horrible outing vs, Ohio State, who in turn, were beaten by a Texas team that has to be a favorite going into the championship weekend.

That said, it is amazing the legacy of great teams from Nebraska, Penn State, Wisconsin, Minnesota have had over the years, Illinois, Ohio State, and Michigan have had individual seasons that were very good. All is well with Big Ten volleyball but matchups were such that this was just not their year.
