Campus building planning

pretty extensive documents at Feb Regents meeting on the Days Inn/Tea House/Parking Lots space next to the Stadium...U of M is a 49% partner in that real estate piece....looks like they might look at new hotel there with combined use...want to make it an attractive campus entry area...

extensive docs on dorms, housing...still talking Pioneer re-do...seems to be a move to try and get even more frosh in dorms and to make more sophomore dorm space available...

AD Search

They've back tracked and now said they're hiring a search firm. Beth "officially" threw her hat in the ring for the permanent job. This tells me one of three things:

1. They want to hire her but want a search committee to validate their choice

2. They don't want to hire her and they want a search committee to validate their choice

3. One or more Regents don't trust Kaler and crew to do it on their own

DWG- will the red dragon rise over Dinkytown by the light of a new moon in the age of Aquarius? Or will the spin doctors record a new album freaturing too live crew and Helen reddy?

Gophers at Iowa Game Thread

Game time is about 30 minutes away. This one could be tough to take. Iowa is at the peak of their gradual climb and they have done it building with local talent and grinding things out with what that local talent can do. They are a rival and it's tough for rivals to see them peaking while the local team is setting new modern day standards for bad.

One good thing is that Minnesota has zero to lose. Another loss is another loss. They can play free against a rival that is on top of the league and has a lot to lose.

Iowa. Peter Jok .Adam Woodbury, Jarrod Uthoff, Nick Baer are all locas. Mike Gesell is actually from Nebraska but grew up seconds from the Iowa border and played most of his basketball life (AAU, traveling, many HS games, etc) in Iowa. Clemmons is from Michigan, Ellingson from Iowa, and Uhl from Germany.

I am here to make premature, poorly researched,

Meaningless CFB predictions:

--Ole Miss's illegal recruiting will get outed in the next couple years, but espn will somehow lean on the ncaa to prevent any loss of post season opportunities and there will be minimal scholarship losses.

--Jim Harbaugh will get a commit from a superstar recruit from a very strict religious upbringing. Harbaugh will become ordained and officiate the recruit's wedding. Urban Meyer will make a joke about it and talk about how 'serious' Ohio state is by comparison.

--Minnesota will win 10+ games in 2016. The Gophers will sign a top 35 class in 2017. Opie will stubbornly refuse to give Claeys credit, and will state that Claeys has no business being a head coach until he 'listens to the ultimate warrior and drops 100 pounds'

--Ryan James will get a HC job at a local high school. GI won't know what to do without his bball coverage.

--MOC will join a book club

--AZJ will grudgingly give the Gophees credit all next season only to do a 180 immediately after the season ends--suddenly making lots of doom and gloom statements about the state of the 2017 class.

--Dantonio, sick of Harbaugh's media domination, will whip the Wolverines on the field next year and afterwards he will donate blood to an ailing family member of one of his players. Will state that 'Harbaugh might have had a chance if they'd drawn blood before the game'

--Tracy Claeys will dance in the locker room after a big conference win and opie will inexplicably complain that he 'shouldn't dance at his size'

--Schroeder will return to DT, but only if It looks like he can celebrate a win for his top team.

--AAD and OPD will come to blows after a game during a heated argument about BBQing techniques.

--STP will become a booster at a top football school in Texas, then immediately chirp all over the board about how his school's 'got half a dozen guys who could start for Minnesota tomorrow'

--In August I will pick Minnesota to win 11+ games and Leidner to win Big 10 Offensive POY. Another poster will criticize Leidner in an exaggerated overly negative way and question my sanity in the process. I will stew in my frustration until Leidner's next big game. At that point I will demand an apology from the OP, I'll address this issue in a drunk thread titled:

This post will lead directly to my 2nd ban. I'll decide it was worth it.

Gophers looking at 2016s

They just offered the guy I linked below. His name is Jordy Tshimanga. A 2016 prep talent. Solid list of offers and a guy that is blowing up cause there is little to grab out there. He is a center. That would mean they have a freshman center with the two juniors balancing things out a bit.

https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/158321

They have also called on former Rochester JM center Ngor Barnaba who is at a juco in Missouri. I'm told Ngor has been a really solid pick and pop four man for them so take away "center" I guess. Is averaging 14.4 and 7.8 a game shooting 38 percent at the arc and taking about three treys in his 30 minutes a game. Here are his numbers. Keep in mind, they just called to hear about him. Doesn't mean much else will come but who knows, he was a mid-major prospect in high school and I haven't seen him in two years.

They of course have joined everybody in calling this guy Kalif Young but haven't heard much about him lately. I've heard that he is a guy that will take a couple years to help.

We also talked about Braian Angola-Rodas from the junior college in Idaho. His numbers are below. He is the mega athletic guy who was at Findlay Prep after coming here from Columbia. A guy that at one point people mentioned as a NBA guy.

There is also Niem Stevenson who the Gopher Hole said Minnesota was looking at. His numbers are below:

Gophers have also looked at Otero College who has a couple two-guards shooting a good percentage standing 6-foot-4. Jacob Holland was just offered by Tulsa. He and DJ Miles are the leading scorers. Numbers below.

http://www.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2015-16/div1/teams/oterojuniorcollege?view=lineup

They also watched Terrence Johnson who was a Pac 12 football recruit but wants to hoop so went juco at last minute and he is a frosh but going to a 4 year next year. Numbers below

So the question you are all wondering. "Why?" and "With what scholarship"

Well, pretty obvious that somebody is going to transfer. I don't like talking about candidates right now but I think we can all figure out who a couple obvious ones are.

And what do they want? I'm told a shooter that will help immediately and/or a big.

Shooter. Makes sense, they need one. If one of these jucos can do that next year they have to look at it.

Big. The new kid offered today. That would mean that they have a freshman center behind two juniors which is a positive if he is good enough. Then add another the next year and you have two going for the future. But...

What about 2017?

Maybe they don't care about 2017 and are all in for next year. But any scholarship used now takes away from 2017 locally and elsewhere. In this state alone you have at least 7 guys that will play high major and it's more likely to be 8 or 9 I think. Gary Trent Jr, Theo John, Goanar Mar, McKinley Wright, Brad Davison, Jericho Sims, Nate Ruevers. In my mind you have to have three scholarships for that group (or for the guys they are looking at out of state like Saben Lee, Terrell Turner, Darius Perry, etc).

If they do grab one of the guys above or others they have to be very sure on them. Too many quality 2017s right here to not have at least 2 scholarships for them, and I think you need 3 for them.

This battle will not be settled until August is over, but it is fun to look into the future. From all accounts, the JUCOs were brought in to start and the RS FR and true FR will have to fight or we get hit with injuries for them to start. I didn't list Weyler, but have heard he is healthy and up to 305+ now.

Just for Fun for those that like numbers: "Posts" to "Likes" ratios (some of us suck)

Greetings:

I needed some mindless numbers work as a break. In reviewing the GI.com notable posters page I could not help myself, comparing some posters' ratios of posts to the likes received. While many of us have 1000s of posts from the pre-like era it was still fun to notice some of those that are effective/efficient in their posting.

This observation was in part driven by a recent post dialogue I had with @MNHeadhunter - got me thinking (he has like 3 posts in the new "like" era but has 6 likes) about the grief I was giving him on his limited number of likes. Similarly you have new generation posters like @blackoliveguy7 who just finally, I believe for the first time, has more posts than likes (pretty formidable for someone with more than 500 posts).

Having to draw the line somewhere I ran the ratios for those with a 1000 or more LIKES. Admittedly this leaves off some very prominent posters that have some very respectable "Like" ratios.

@bradt42 : 12.08:1
@dubwa : 6.93:1
@TKGophFan : 4.03:1
Tundra : 16.65:1 (crap even 42 beat me - I must REALLY suck)
@umfb27 : 13.72:1
@ehresmann22 : 6.28:1
@OPD77 : .74:1 (I hate you - the only one with more likes than posts, with a ratio of less than one)
Hyphen (aka @Matt Jessen-Howard) : 2.3:1 (not bad for a mod)
@Nine : 19.45:1 (this is clearly a result of longevity, and tons of posts before the "LIKE" era)
@GopherJim : 5.72
@Tuchman Marsh : 6.27:1
@Slab Of Bacon : 10.60:1
@fencejumpers : 4.84:1
@AhliBobwa : 5.57:1

Draw your own conclusions since the population size is tainted by assorted variables. all I know is that I have way too many posts, and I am extremely ineffective and inefficient. Hell even 42 is more effective and efficient than me. Other long time posters are clearly every effective and efficient with their posts (e.g. TK, Boat, Fence).

so all I got to say to all of you, is post on....

Rj...scholly and personel questions

I know this has been touched on a lot but...

1. You see buggs staying for Sr season? Freeing his scholly up means nothing as I hope they don't try to push him to sign a spring 16 guy.

2. How good is davonte Fitzgerald? Will he be a rsoph next yr? He has had injury problems. What does he even look like? Will he play? Could we have used his scholly for a 2017 instead?

3. Does Gaston get pushed out for a big man in 2017?

The 2017 mn hs class has some really good players that I wished we could get. I hope we can get the right ones.
