There's no way this will be seen as a positive

I admit I've been disappointed in Claeys. I was disappointed in Mitch Leidner yesterday. I've been somewhat disappointed with the coaching staff.

Having said that:

Before Jerry Kill, Nebraska was on something like a 16 game winning streak against Minnesota. We were losing game 48-0, and that was on a good day.

10 years ago, it was a major celebration when we became bowl eligible.

I know, I know, don't accept mediocrity. Look at Wisconsin.

And Kill is gone. This is Tracy Claeys.

But the fact is, I'm not sure why I'm disappointed. This team is currently a solid, competitive team. They need a couple big pieces, but they're athletic, hard working, competitive kids.

I'm going to stop feeling bad and focus on the next two games. BEAT WISCONSIN!!

Alright. This is simple. There are 3 games that Claeys has left to prove me wrong. I don't think he is the right coach. I also want so badly to be proven wrong. Win 1 of these next 3, and I will fully admit to saying, "STP is wrong, let's ride the Claeys train."

We are down 17-0 early. We are 3 and out over and over again.

Halftime :

cornhuskers 24
GOPHERS 7

The second half is a little better but it matters not...

cornhuskers 38
Gophers 17

What say y'all ?

Even if Ohio State wins out, they need help to get to the B10 championship

Many Ohio State fans are going to wake up in the next couple weeks and realize that Penn State beats them in a tiebreaker in the Big Ten east division.. Penn State has one loss and Ohio State also has one loss.. But Penn State BEAT Ohio State so if Penn State wins the next 2 games, it DOES NOT MATTER what the Buckeyes do, even if they beat Michigan,, It will be Penn State in the Big Ten conference championship out of the East if Ohio State wins out.... If Michigan wins out, they represent the Big Ten east against the west division champions as they beat Penn State....Lots of implications to this including the fact that Wisconsin can win the Big Ten championship without facing Michigan or Ohio State again. Penn State has Rutgers and Michigan State left on their schedule.

If Ohio State wins out, this could be a similar situation like the year that Alabama beat LSU in the national championship... If you remember, Alabama won the national championship without making their own conference championship that year. LSU beat Alabama in the regular season so they represented the SEC west in the SEC championship game. Yet the polls put Alabama in the national championship game.... This is interesting drama as to whether Ohio State should be eligible for even getting to the playoffs. Fascinating times ahead if Penn State wins out as that knocks out Ohio State from being in the conference championship, which looks good right now for the Nittany Lions.

Main points from Gopher basketball presser

Richard Pitino
  • Happy with the way the played and watching film. "About as good as we could play against a good team."
  • Scheduled the game against UT-Arlington thinking they'd be an NCAA Tournament team.
  • We need to be ready, we need our fans to be ready. Everyone in our building, everyone in the profession knows this will be a tremendous challenge.
  • Arkansas and St. John's are much improved. It's fun to have these teams in our building. Gopher fans have always wanted good competition coming here to play. We need our fans; our fans are awesome.
  • "It's human nature to see a team like UT-Arlington and not know much about them, but they're really, really good...You can't really look ahead (to St. John's) when we're playing a team as good as we're playing tomorrow."
  • Akeem bring something the other guys don't.
  • UT-Arlington is one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Our guys in the locker room respect them.
  • Not going to live with Reggie Lynch's foul trouble. We're going to keep drilling him. Happy that he played so hard without fouling in game one.
  • Akeem's a versatile guy. Has been kind of a shooter so far here, but he can attack the basket and we want him to keep doing it all.
  • Our fans are loyal and will stick by you. We had a horrible year last year, and they still come back. Against Maryland last year, we were 0-12 in conference and had 10,000 or more fans there. There are very, very few places in college basketball where that would happen. I think there's this negative narrative here with fans, but that's just not true. To be in a major city with all these things to do and pro sports teams, you wouldn't expect the support we have. If you look at all other programs in major cities, I think we're pretty unique with the support we have, especially considering how much we lost last season.
  • Want the fans to understand tomorrow how much we need them. It will be a war.
  • Surprised with how much fan support is here, was not expecting it when he came here. "If you look at programs in every major city (they don't have the same support). That's why this place is unique."
Reggie Lynch
  • Arlington is kind of like UL-Lafayette but a much more together team. Their identity is rebounding.
  • Fouling's been a struggle for me. In practice, I'm working on not going for too many shot blocks when I don't need to.
  • Eric will get on himself if he misses a layup or fouls and I make sure to tell him it's all good. Try to be a mentor for him.
  • In the back of our head, we want to make the NCAA Tournament. That's the long-term goal but we're taking things one game at a time.
Jordan Murphy
  • Arlington is a very skilled team.
  • It's going to be a war -- a battle on the boards and a battle on the floor.
  • Really balanced scoring and share of duties in game one. Good to see.
  • More direct with communication to Eric Curry than Reggie. Always in Curry's ear about plays and playing hard. He always looks to pass, so I'm telling him it's time to score when you're down there.
  • Chemistry at an all-time high. More cohesive than last season.

Tommy Armstrong update

Armstrong is going through the concussion protocol process but may have not specifically been diagnosed a concussion.

"We'll go day-by-day with it, and so far it's pretty well on track," Riley said of Armstrong's injury. "We are hopeful, but we are not for sure at all."

Here's what Mike Riley said on the Big Ten Media Call when Husker Online asked if he was actually diagnosed with a concussion:

"I think with the injury that he had, they are treating it like a concussion," Riley said. "(Armstrong) had some of the residual effects that would say it was possibly a concussion and in the nature of the injury they are treating it just like one, so he's going through all the protocol of what that looks like."

Seriously 55 has never been wrong! I can prove it!

1. Quies can pass (correct) he threw a pass this past sunday for Miami
2. We need to breathe (correct) our offense is anemic
3. It's hard out hea (correct) (See Trump & Po po videos)
4. WR need a psychologist ( posiiton group with the most turnover)
5. White guys love to eat Puuuuuuuteen (correct)
6. Kill/claeys play Rudy ball (correct) We slow down the game, no mistakes cause we aren't good enough to line up and go for the knock out punch like 55 wants. If you beat me, you beat me. But i"m trying to knock ya ass out.
7. Less is more, smaller rotations on defense improved us (correct) after my post they slowed the relay race to the sideline.
8. speed up the game (correct) Leidner is better with uptempo and you can get Brooks more touches and be conservative. (See Auburn the last few years)

What else?

The only thing I didn't analysis correctly was that Johnson would have this offense breathing.
We went from code blue, to th oxygen tank at the old folks home. I think he could if Claeys released him to do what he do. Johnson must be a brother. Cause He is jammed up.

IF you are watching ABC or ESPN, you have seen this amazing result

Mount Union, which is just east of Canton, Ohio, lost a regular season game to instate rival John Carroll...... Mount Union had a 112 game regular season win streak. That streak is just unfathomable to me at any level of football... Yes, i am aware of the fact they have been beat by Wisconsin-Whitewater in the finals, quite a few times, but it is amazing that they held a streak that long.... The Kehres family who has coached the team are some really great people to talk to, if you have the chance. Will talk to just any average Joe out there and it wont take long to find out how humble they are and how revered they are by the players.

I am not necessarily a fan of parity because teams don't have a target to raise their level of their game... Mount Union has been the target for years, and have continued to answer the bell, week in week out... I wont cry over their loss nor will they, as they will have win streaks in the future, I am sure. Just an amazing loss but I am sure that if they asked Larry Kehres, he would say that it would happen sometime so it just happened to be today.
