Recapping the top performers on offense and defense for Minnesota in Saturday's 27-22 loss to Iowa, according to Pro Football Focus analytics.
PFF Ratings Reference:
- 60-70 = average numbers for college
- 71-84 = above average to great starters
- 85+ is elite
Top Five Offensive Performers with at least 20 snaps:
Ko Kieft - 90.5
John Michael Schmitz - 77.8
Chris Autman-Bell - 75.8
Ky Thomas - 75.1
Mar'Keise Irving - 74.8
- Strong days for the team's main skill players, with Autman-Bell and both freshmen RB's grading out well above average. Ko Kieft continues his elite season.
- Brevyn Spann-Ford with an offensive low 42.7 grade and Daniel Jackson next a 49.5 grade. For a team that really needed a pass-catching presence, these two didn't have their best days.
- Tanner Morgan with a below average 53.9 grade. It is safe to question whether a quarterback change may be on the horizon.
Top 5 Defensive Performers with at least 20 snaps:
Mariano Sori-Marin - 81.9
Justin Walley - 72.3
Tyler Nubin - 71.3
De'Angelo Carter - 69.7
Jordan Howden - 66.8
- Mostly positive grades from the defense. Only three below average grades were Braelen Oliver (49.4), Coney Durr (50.2), and Thomas Rush (51.7).
- Superb game from Mariano Sori-Marin and from the secondary besides Durr. They gave Minnesota a chance to keep the game close.
- In a rivalry game, disappointing to see Coney Durr have the grade that he did. As a senior leader, Minnesota needs their best players to play well in big games.
- Of the bottom five grades, three were defensive linemen. Rush (51.7), Micah Dew-Treadway (60.5), Boye Mafe (61.7).
