I think Minnesota will stick with Ben Johnson for at least 4 years. But just in case..........

I do think Minnesota is in a complete rebuild job so Ben Johnson will get 4 years to turn this around. And rightfully so, IMO, unless some scandal comes down the pike. But here are names I would keep in the back of my head, just in case.

I like Darian DeVries at Drake..... Good coach with limited resources

Chris Beard... I still think that situation sounded sketchy, on his fiance's end, so I might be willing to give this guy another chance. Successful at all of his stops as coach.

Jeff Linder at Wyoming - Trust me, guys,. This guy can flat out coach.. This season is an anomaly as he brought 3 guys in that he thought would be good for the program, but that ended up being malcontents from the PAC 12 that ended up quitting on him plus injuries to key players so he has had only 7 players to work with most of this season. He is a much better coach than this year's record indicates and is one of the best coaches to turn around programs in a hurry.

I think Gregg Marshall shot himself in the foot for future jobs for verbally abusing players the way he did at Wichita State. But these are names the come to mind that have experience as head coaches.

I am trying to be both positive and honest in mens hoops

Our free throw shooting looked much improved. There, I was positive.

I cannot believe how bad our ballhandling and defense are for this team... Any and every open scholarship should focus on good ball handlers, specifically PGs. We need one if not 2good PGs. Cooper is a good passer but that is only part of good PG play. Decision making and ballhandling are lacking,IMO... All of our guards do not handle the ball well. Henley has some of the most loose handles on our team. Cooper is really a combo guard in a PG body. I like him better as a 2 really.

Putting Battle out there to handle the ball is not good either. I wish we had a hustle player like Hoiberg's son was today. I do like the future of Payne and Olu-Joseph. There is so much work to do in the offseason with existing players and WE HAVE TO GET 1 OR 2 SOLID PGS FROM THE PORTAL, THIS OFFSEASON.

I am at a loss to explain all the troubles we have on defense. Our communication is so terrible that next year is like starting over again. Switches, moving feet, double teams at wrong times, positioning. All things lacking. Lots of soul searching to do in the upcoming offseason.

Basketball CAN WE SEE ANY POSITIVES IN MENS HOOPS FOR THE GOPHERS??

Remember, next year we have 3 NEW ADDITIONS AS FRESHMEN NOT JUST 2. Kadyn Betts was a redshirt this year and will be joining Dennis Evans and Cameron Christie. I think all 3 have the potential to be impact players.

I do think we have seen improvements in Dawson Garcia. Talon Cooper is proving to be more of a combo guard than a true point guard. I like the improvements of 2 of our freshmen in Pharrell Payne and Joshua Olu Joseph. Both have Big Ten bodies and are improving though with freshman, that can be 2 steps forward and 1 step back. I admittedly am a bit disappointed in the play of Braden Carrington and Jaden Henley. They dont seem to be making strides forward though injury has played a part in their stunted development, I admit. A lot needs to happen in the off season for these men and I hope we can get former Gopher players to help these guys in half court situations where they need to hit shots and make better decisions. Carrington and Henley both need to shoot 100s of shots, every day, in the off season so their shooting percentages improve. That, and gain better strength and fitness.

Jameson Battle has taken a step back though a lot has to do with him having more athletic defenders guarding him this year as opposed to last year. Battle has actually done a decent job of defending though his offense has struggled often this year. I dont know the future of Treyton Thompson but we need his body at this point. The additions of Isaiah Ihnen and Parker Fox in whatever they can give will be welcome additions. May not be much but at least give us a few minutes.

If a scholarship opens up, we have to get a quick PG that is good defensively and a good leader. Not easy to get. I am not worried so much about points per game but would like that quickness and hopefully help with communication on the FLOOR, especially on defense. That is desperately needed.

Football Spring game set for April 22nd

The University of Minnesota football team will hold its annual spring game presented by Holiday Stationstores, part of the Circle K family at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at Huntington Bank Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on BTN and can be heard on the radio on KFAN. Additional details – like parking, pregame fan activities and what time gates open – will be announced in the future.

The traditional spring tilt will once again end with the victorious team hoisting the coveted Goldy's Cup and a player being named the Sid Hartman Spring Game MVP.

While additional details will be announced in the future, two constants will remain.

First, fans are encouraged to bring a decorated oar to the spring game. These customized oars will be added to the inside of Huntington Bank Stadium where they adorn the hallway that the Gophers travel from their locker room to the field on game days. These inspirational oars are the final images the Gophers see before taking the field and serve as a way to connect the community and state with Gopher football.

Second, the team will once again host its annual diaper drive at the spring game. Gopher fans have donated more than 115,000 diapers in the last six years and fans are encouraged to bring diapers to the game and drop them off outside the stadium near Tribal Nations Plaza (outside of West Plaza). These diapers will then be donated to the Diaper Bank of Minnesota where they will then be distributed to families in need.
