College football betting questions from a rube

When it comes to gambling, I'm a total rube.

so I know the over/under has come out and has Minnesota at 6. That's extremely enticing. Although I'm still not sure how to figure out how much you win should you win the over bet.

I have 3 questions for you guys:

1) Where do you guys like to bet on CFB? Where have you had good or bad experiences?

2) Are lines out to bet on the Big 10 conference championship?

3) Last year I was unable to find anywhere to bet on the Big 10 West division champs. I would really like to bet on the Gophers to win the west this year.

Appreciate my fellow GIers help in advance

Skiumah!

John Wick is a Bad Ass!!!

I have been recording TV content digitally on my TiVo (amazing technology!!) for more than 10 years. With 300 HD hours of storage on my hard drive, I'm able to keep a lot of shows and movie in the queue that I re-watch...when nothing else is good.

Lately there are 2 action movies that I keep watching over and over. STP or SOB had a post a few months ago about the best action movies since Heat, The Bourne movies and others. Today I say (strongly) that John Wick (2014) and V for Vendetta (2006) are the best, kick ass, action movies out there today!!!

They must both have big ratings as they are being shown a lot on cable.

Other than these two, The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner was the other best action movie I've seen in the last 5-10 years besides the Bourne Trilogy.

Keanu Reeves is one badass MF!!! And he gets revenge against the Russian mob that is a beautiful thing!! I almost never believe in revenge. But, in this case, I cheered every time John Wick kicked the asses of his torturers.

V for Vendetta is almost 10 years old, but I think it's been getting such large ratings lately that it's turning into an action cult movie. So, it's being shown a lot.

With good reason as it also kicks ass...big time!!! It's an anti-fascist movie set in the UK in the future. It shows how one insightful visionary can bring down a government, using intelligent propaganda, killings of famous fascist mouthpieces, and even a few timely bombings. It's quite an amazing story!!

Maybe all of you are familiar with these two movies. But, if you are not, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have lately. I cheer these guys through the whole movie!

Let me know if you agree with me that John Wick kicks ass!!!

I HOPE SHE FRY'S....

This story is unbelievable and I hope she gets what she deserves...

NORTH PORT - As a staff sergeant flying in bombing raids over Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II, Michael Nicholas Tristano flirted with death on a recurring basis.

The former ball-turret gunner cheated the reaper again last week, but instead of dodging German anti-aircraft guns' flak from inside a B-17 “Flying Fortress” bomber, police say the 91-year-old veteran survived a savage attack inside his North Port home by the caregiver entrusted with his welfare.

Police say Tristano's caregiver, whom he had known for at least a decade, clubbed him in the head multiple times with an aluminum oxygen tank and left him on the floor of his home to die on the night of May 15.

But Tristano's will to live was too strong. Police say the caretaker, Elena Erickson, 45, of North Port, called paramedics to Tristano's house on White Ibis Drive the next day shortly after 8 a.m. Tristano was treated at Venice Regional Bayfront Health and is now recovering at home.

Erickson told first responders she found Tristano lying in a pool of blood and urine near his dining room table. She said she hadn't been at the home since 10:30 p.m. the previous night.

Detectives searched the home and found no signs of forced entry. They did, however, find a bloodied portable oxygen tank.

On May 20, Tristano was in good enough health to speak with the detectives. He said that the night he was attacked, he and Erickson were arguing about her payment.

Tristano told detectives that at about 9:30 p.m., Erickson struck him in the head twice with the oxygen tank while he was sitting at the dining room table.

The two wrestled over the tank and Tristano received more wounds to his wrist and forearms.

Tristano said he sat back down at the dining room table while Erickson attempted to clean up his blood with paper towels for about an hour. She refused to let him leave the table, and at 10:30 p.m., he said she struck him two more times with the oxygen tank.

Tristano fell to the floor and began to drift in and out of consciousness. He said Erickson finally left sometime between 5 and 6 a.m., before returning to the home a few hours later to call 911.

Detectives interviewed Erickson on Tuesday and found probable cause to charge her with attempted murder and tampering with evidence. She has been in Sarasota County jail since Thursday on $300,000 bail.

“The North Port Police Department considers crimes against children and the elderly to be some of the most severe,” city spokesman Josh Taylor said. “The public should know these types of crimes come with increased penalty enhancements. In this particular case, Erickson could receive up to life behind bars.”

According to Don Moore, a local reporter who writes about veterans living in and near Charlotte County, Tristano served as a waist gunner and ball-turret gunner during World War II.

He flew 35 combat missions in a B-17 bomber beginning in January of 1945. After the war, Tristano graduated from New York University, he went into the food service business and moved to Florida in 2000, Moore reported.

How can we help sell "Minnesota" to others??

Like everything in life, we have positives and negatives about the state and the University.. And all of us can probably list both. I think we can influence others in discussions around us to get top kids to come to the state and consider playing for the U. I think the POSITIVE discussions are as important as waiting for a coach to get to a kid's house trying to sell the University without a kid knowing anything previously. Think of the times of the 1978 basketball recruiting class where these kids had positive understanding of Minnesota outside of what coaches pitched to the kids.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST PAUL is one of the US' most beautiful metropolitan areas. Lakes/water everywhere which for a big city, is highly unusual. Lots of diverse interests that makes it an interesting area.

LOTS of FORTUNE 500 companies... People have places of employment in reputable companies and standard of living is pretty good in the area.

WORLD CLASS ACADEMIC PROGRAMS in business, psychology, arts, engineering, medicine.

PEOPLE ARE PRETTY NICE....I have been to a lot of metro areas and I still feel the Twin Cities have some of the nicest people I have ever met in a big city area.

CREATIVE PEOPLE.. There are reasons that people have stayed in the area in the face of high taxes and cold weather.. Minnesota has some of the most innovative people anywhere you will go. Deep traditions in many different industries.

LOTS OF UNIQUE THINGS TO DO.....Quirky, artsy, athletic, outdoors, indoors, corporate, small busines, farming, historical, technical, whatever. You name it and the Twin Cities has it.

ONE OF THE FEW MIDWEST METRO AREAS THAT START TRENDS AND NOT JUST FOLLOW.

Ted Thompson

So does Ted take it up the tailpipe annually from Roger so the Packers get the easiest schedule in the league each year? If they don't win 11-12 games minimum, they should be demoted to the CFL.

When will the NFL crack down on Hair Roid aka Clay Matthews?

Is Aaron going to cum out of the closet this year?

Do I take Nelson on my fantasy team this year or not? Sort of legit question...

Does Lacy weigh over 300 at camp?

How much have you made on your stock options? Or the Lambert dirt? Are these in your will?

Coyle we need you NOW

I would like to extend a good luck wish to our new AD after this story broke. The time is way over due to start putting this crap to bed at the U.
Yes I know the first thing some of you will do is say it's the Minneapolis rag ripping the U again. But they have sources within the team that has come forward to tell them of this going on.
If this story is true, and I have to believe it is, Coyle is going to have to work overtime to fix the BS that's going on over there. And another good reason for Goetz to not get the job with this going on under her watch.
It's a example of a long time coach thinking he can fix things by himself, without anyone knowing about it.
We might be looking for few more coaches than we think.
Good Luck Mr. Coyle.

Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs - Cowles Auditorium

The Minnesota Republic is pleased to host Milo Yiannopolous and Christina Hoff Sommers as they interview each other about the awful topic of contemporary Feminism.

Having failed to find a single member of the University of Minnesota's Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies Department to debate Milo on the (supposed) virtues of modern, third wave, "quantum superstate" feminism, we are delighted to announce that Christina Hoff Sommers will be joining Milo on stage for this event!

This event will be held in Cowles Auditorium in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. REMINDER: This event is free, unticketed, and will be seated at a first come, first served basis.

This event will be free and open to all members of the public.

Milo Yiannopoulos is a journalist, broadcaster and internet personality. He is one of the best-known cultural commentators in Europe and his profile in America is rising rapidly thanks to fearless reporting about internet culture, video games, feminism, free speech and the effect of technology on society. He is a leading figure in the cultural libertarian movement and a senior editor at Breitbart.com.

You can find Milo's work all over the internet, though the best place to start would be his own website: yiannopoulos.net

Christina Hoff Sommers is an author and former philosophy professor who has written a number of books including "Who Stole Feminism" and "The War Against Boys" both of which are sharply critical of contemporary feminism. She is currently a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and the host of a weekly video blog, "The Factual Feminist." She coined the term "equity feminist" to describe her own philosophy, and to distinguish it from "victim" or "gender feminism."

Spring evaluation spotlight: Recruiting Alabama & Louisiana

Recruiting these two states could be more impactful for the Gophers in 2017 than some Midwest states on the recruiting trail this spring.

Though prospects in the southeast supply most of the power conference teams in college football and scouts flock to the area routinely, having two assistant coaches who recently worked in the south is an added bonus for Minnesota. Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson coached at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for five seasons before joining the Minnesota staff in December while offensive line coach Bart Miller arrived from Florida Atlantic University.

Why are they recruiting Alabama?

Defense, defense and more defense. Every recruit the staff has offered is a defender. The staff has targeted two of the nation's top defensive backs, a position at Minnesota that has a reputation for potential NFL draft picks. Minnesota has had a DB drafted in each of the last three NFL drafts.

While we can expect Damarius Travis will do his best to mentor the incoming DBs for the freshman class of 2016, the Gophers will have big shoes to fill after this season when Travis graduates, along with Ace Rogers and Jalen Myrick.

The possibility of landing Notre Dame transfer and safety Mykelti Williams (now at Iowa Western CC) for 2017 still stands, but here are the DBs with offers from the Gophers in Alabama.

Who are the possible commits?

The strongest pick would be cornerback Jordyn Peters. Three-star prospect from Muscle Shoals was offered by Minnesota in April and it was his first Big Ten offer. In an interview with GI, Peters said he was impressed with the staff's ability to develop NFL-ready DBs.

AJ Harris is another high-level target who could help fill the need at safety.

DT Neil Farrell is rated one of the top 20 DT's in the country and with Minnesota's defensive line being one of the biggest concerns after last season, could alter the defense, even as a freshman.

The prize recruit?

That would be four-star inside linebacker Kendric Haynes. 4-star LB is a wrecking ball of a tackler. Everything around him goes down hard. Very physical and fast.

LOUISIANA

What do they need from Louisiana?

The recruiting is the exact opposite, with the Gophers offering all offensive players. At the receiver position, by 2017 Hunter Register will be a sophomore, Rashad Still will be a junior and Eric Carter a senior. Drew Wolitarsky will be gone. How about a pair of talented receivers to bring in a new generation of wide outs?

Who are the possible commits?

Michael Young a three-star WR from Destrehan, Louisiana, recently told GI he likes Minnesota's offensive scheme, as does Jeremy Singleton, a three-star WR from New Orleans. Both WRs said the like OC Jay Johnson, who as we know, coached in Louisiana for 5 years.

"I like the way he uses receivers, quarterbacks and running backs, options, misdirection and a lot of high-low concepts with the receivers," Young said. "A lot of that stuff intrigued me, how he utilizes his receivers and tries to get them the ball in space for yards after catch."

Singleton said he can see himself playing the slot position at Minnesota.

Running back Jakyle Holmes is the most likely to commit to the Gophers and one of the 10 prospects I thought would eventually pick UMN back in March. Holmes has reportedly run a 40-yard dash as quickly as 4.38 seconds and Minnesota was the first power conference school to offer. I think a visit, unofficial or official, will seal the deal for Holmes.

The prize recruit?

It's a toss up between Young and Singleton, but Young is probably considered the better prospect, though both are rated three stars.

This poll is intended to be part serious and part facetious.

I often read posts advocating that we drop sports as a way to put more focus and resources on football, as if that is actually a viable option. It ignores the reality of B1G membership requirements and Title IX, which precludes all but minor changes in what we offer.

Nonetheless, this poll should reveal GI posters' least favorite sports!

To flip this, is there a sport you would like to see added? Lacrosse, or Men's Soccer?

;)
