Basketball ***QUICK NOTES ON DEPAUL***

DePaul is entering year two under head coach Tony Stubblefield, who led the Blue Demons to one of their best seasons since joining the Big East last year with a 15-16 overall record, 6-14 in conference.

So far this season, the Blue Demons have notched home victories over Loyola (Md.) 72-66 and Western Illinois 86-74. Monday's matchup at Minnesota will be their first road game of the season.

KEY PLAYERS:

DePaul lost their top three scorers (and rebounders) from a year ago and have seven new players on their roster coming into this season.

Through their two games this season, graduate forward Javan Johnson leads the team averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds. He scored 24 points and notched 10 rebounds in their season-opening win over Loyola (Md.).

Oklahoma transfer guard Umoja Gibson is averaging 18 points per game and has dished out 14 assists so far this season. He's coming off a 24-point, 8 assist performance in the Blue Demons win over Western Illinois.

The rest of DePaul's starting lineup consists of the following:

- Eral Penn, a transfer from Long Island and former two-time All-NEC first-teamer, is averaging 9 points and four rebounds

- Yor Anei, a graduate forward who is averaging 7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-10, 228-pounder is the team's leading shot blocker with six so far on the year.

- Jalen Terry, a junior guard that is 4.5 points and 4 rebounds per game.

- Da'Sean Nelson, a junior forward from Kilgore College, is DePaul's key reserve off the bench. He has scored in double-digits in both of the Blue Demons' wins this season and is averaging 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds a game.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

- DePaul will go 10-players deep with nine of those averaging at least 10 minutes per game.

- The Blue Demons are shooting 50.9% from the field, 37% from three-point range, and 80.6% from the free-throw line.

Football ***FLECK MONDAY PRESSER: IOWA WEEK***

Summarizing what Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck said during Monday's press conference with a rivalry matchup against Iowa looming this weekend

- Said they needed to make routine plays in the passing game, had a couple of passing scores he thought they left on the board

- On Jah Joyner: Dedicated himself to the weight room, starting to believe he's one of the best football players on the team, Fleck thinks he's one of the best football players on the team. One of the most improved players this season and loves seeing his confidence. He's the x-factor on defense.

- Has a ton of respect for Iowa and what they've continued to do on defensively. They seem to create a lot of points on defense year in and year out. Says Iowa has gotten better as the season has went on. It's a rivalry game, that's why you come to the Big Ten.

- Athan Kaliakmanis knew he could have played better on Saturday. He's an ultimate competitor and he'll get better through experience. He's a great teammate. He'll be an elite leader on this team. He's trying to find out what works for him in terms of a leadership standpoint.

- Said Tanner Morgan was at practice yesterday. Still in medical teams' hands in terms of what he can do each day.

- On senior day: One of the most emotional minutes before a game you'll ever have. Have an all-time winning quarterback leaving and one of the best running backs in the Big Ten that will be leaving. Can't thank those guys enough. We've had some conversations with some guys that we want to come back and we'll see what they want to do on Saturday in terms of taking part in senior day. We've got a special group of seniors and are looking forward to the celebrations.

- Haven't heard from NCAA on Autman-Bell getting an extra year of eligibility, but says all signs point to that happening.

- On previous Iowa games and what he's learned: Always look at your past and embrace your future. Always look at their tendencies and what we think they'll do in the future. We look at it as a one-game entity. This is a completely different team this year as opposed to last year.

- On having more motivation on not beating Iowa yet in his career: It's a rivalry. This means a lot to our program and our state. We know how important this game is.

- On 3rd-down success: We're setting up 3rd-and shorts and 3rd-and manageable. We've had success on executing 1st and 2nd downs and that helps us keeping our time of possession. Running the ball 58 times last week was necessary for us to win the ball game. Says Iowa is really good on 1st and 2nd down as well.

MINNEAPOLIS - A new season of collegiate wrestling is upon us, as the University of Minnesota wrestling program travels to Fargo, N.D. to compete in the Bison Open on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Similar to previous seasons, the Gophers intend to send the majority of their roster and have multiple competitors at each weight class, using this weekend's competition as the initial indicator for how the starting lineup will shake out ahead of the dual season.

Minnesota's last appearance came just a season ago, as six of the ten tournament champions donned the Maroon & Gold - Patrick McKee, Jake Gliva, Michael Blockhus, Brayton Lee, Jared Krattiger, and Isaiah Salazar.

Competitor schools expected to be participating in the Bison Open are host school North Dakota State and South Dakota State, as well as other lower-divisions programs around the area such as Jamestown, Mary, Minot State, and Northern State, among others.

Action will begin inside the Scheels Center at 9:00 a.m. CST. Fans who would like to follow along with the action can head to Twitter at @GopherWrestling for live match-by-match updates, or head to the tournament page and follow the brackets as they are updated here.

One of Minnesota's strengths heading into the 2022-23 season is its depth with a total of 11 former national qualifiers returning to the squad, and nearly 20 student-athletes with wins over ranked opponents last season. With such depth, as well as a few wrestlers returning from season-ending injuries last season, this weekend's action is bound to see matches between teammates that will influence the landscape of the starting lineup as the "U" prepares for its' regular season opener on Nov. 20 against Binghamton

This weekend's Bison Open will also provide an opportunity for Gopher fans to be introduced to some of Minnesota's incoming freshman class, as they will see their first collegiate action on Saturday. The incoming class, which was ranked as the No. 14 recruiting class for the Class of 2022, includes Troy Spratley, Quincy Hulverson, Hunter Lyden, Devin Wasley, and Tagen Jamison.
