Football Recruiting Michigan offers Gophers RB commit Darius Taylor - What to know...

Are you concerned about Michigan and Darius Taylor? Why or why not?

Football Kaliakmanis or Morgan the rest of the season?

It's an interesting debate following today's game. Kaliakmanis played as good as can be expected against Penn State, but I thought he played exceptional today. His passing stats would have been better if not for a couple of drops. He also brings athleticism and a bit of speed to the running game as well that was utilized well in the second half today.

Now, I would be utterly shocked if Fleck stuck with Kaliakmanis through the rest of the season. Morgan is his guy, he recruited him to Western Michigan and Fleck wanted Morgan to join him at Minnesota.

Fleck will opt for veteran leadership over the young guy with a better overall skill set, but should he?

I say role with Kaliakmanis the rest of the year and continue to develop chemistry with the receivers

Football ***FLECK PRESS CONFERENCE: NORTHWESTERN WEEK***

Summarizing with Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck said during Monday's press conference....

- No update on Tanner Morgan's status. Was at practice yesterday (didn't specify if he participated)
- Thought they got out-physicaled against Nebraska on both sides of the ball in the first half
- Rossi and his entire staff did a great job of adjusting at halftime
- They need to do a better job of making routine plays all around

- Can't panic in those situations like the one at Nebraska, thought they were really patient in making adjustments
- Was confident they were going to be able to control the game in the second half
- Did little things at the end of the first half
- Said special teams were dynamite on Saturday from the kicking game to punting and pinning Nebraska inside the 20 on three occasions.

- Athan Kaliakmanis has "it"
- He's worked really well with Tanner in practice throughout the week in helping him prepare for each game
- Credits Morgan and Ciarrocca for AK's development and growth in the QB room
- He's got confidence and he's getting better at reaching every player
- He hasn't had a lot of time, just starting with his consistency
- Everyone knows how he works and knows how he practices and they know what they are going to get
- He's not just a good football player, he wants to be a good leader as well

- Thought internal pressure along the defensive line was great, was doing it with four guys throughout
- They contested a lot of balls that were in the air
- Defensive guys did a really good job of adjusting to the new game plan as the game evolved

- Huge kicks from Matthew Trickett. First one was 47-yards into the wind.
- Have a ton of confidence in him
- 49-yarder with the wind at his back, he crushed it
- He's kicking with a high confidence level right now

- Need to be more consistent (talking receivers)
- Not deep enough across the board to not make routine plays and think we can make up for it later
- Need to keep being more productive and play at a high-level week in and week out
- Made some incredible plays against Nebraska and put us in a great position to win the game
- Dylan Jackson is getting used to being "the guy"
- Dylan Wright really stepped up, nobody believes in him more than us
- We don't want 50/50 balls, we want 90/10

- On Northwestern: never look at their record, they are tough, play as hard as anybody we've ever played
- We're playing the defending Big Ten West champs

Other Sports First recruiting casualty as a result of Hugh McCutcheon's announcement

Lacey Choboy was general considered the number one recruit in the nation of all defensive specialists and she was committed to Minnesota.. That changed with Coach Hugh McCutcheon stepping down as head coach and taking another position with the University.

Being the class act that he is, Hugh has been in contact with all the recruits and Lacey said she appreciated that so much.. But as a result, Lacey visited Texas and Nebraska this week. She is going to sign with Nebraska so we will see her throughout her college career.. Just not in Maroon and Gold. Sad to hear that but Minnesota is not going to name a new coach until after the season.

I am still interested to see if Minnesota would consider hiring the coach at Concordia in St Paul who has won all those national championships at a lower level.. I have heard he is respected in the volleyball community, at all levels. He recruits the state anyways and would seem like a perfect candidate at Minnesota but I dont know how that works at the Division 1 level as far as recruits wanting a "NAME COACH" for the elite level recruits.
