FRUSTRATION POST: GOTTA FINISH DRIVES WITH TDs

I am frustrated.. This was probably our best chance to win the west with all the experience we had at O-Line and skill positions. Dont know what the future years hold but it cant be set up any better than it was for our team, this year.

WE GOTTA FINISH DRIVES WITH POINTS!! Does not matter what we dominate statistically if we cant score TDs on long drives... AND DO IT AGAINST CONFERENCE TEAMS, ESPECIALLY ARCH RIVALS!!! I do agree with everyone that says we need better balance on offense, in the future. In the case of Mo's fumble, we were rolling pretty good with him so it is hard to fault going to him again and again. I still cannot believe he had over 250 yards rushing against that defense. BUT WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SCORE AFTER MOVING THE BALL WELL, BETWEEN THE 20s.

I feel like cussing up a storm but I know I need to show a bit of restraint. I just dont know if we ever will have the chances to be in the position that we want, again. We had the perfect setup this year.. Super experienced and quality players on offense and defense. But could not finish the deal!!

“Faith in Fleck”

Have “Faith in Fleck” because:
1) After losing 3 games in a row, he and his staff brought this team back to being on the brink of winning the Big Ten West title.
2) If Mo does not fumble, they probably score and beat Iowa. There is no way one can fault Mo after the unbelievable game he played yesterday
3) Coach Fleck does not care how you win, just that you win. The recipe yesterday was to win with the run and it worked, Next year, and in future years, with a more experienced quarterback (Athan and others) plus, an injection of new wide receivers, the pass will come more into play….please remember the days of Rashod Bateman and Tyler Johnson.
4) What a great thing for Coach Fleck to say after a difficult loss yesterday….”the team is disappointed, but, not discouraged.” That’s a truly great coach and great person to come up with words like that. We are so lucky to have Coach Fleck as the Gopher football coach and hopefully, for many, many more years.

Timeouts

Does PJ put any value on his timeouts. How many other teams that played football yesterday had no first half timeouts left with 11 minutes left in second quarter. I truly believe if he had a couple timeouts left in the first half we would have scored . First time outs wasted on fourth down punt call. Another one wasted when Ipea had the ball on are 1 yard line 1st and goal

I’m convinced that….

Until this staff embraces the concept of the forward pass, this is where we’ll be stuck.

We’ll beat inferior opponents in the non conference, play around .500 ball in the conference, and win the occasional trophy game.

If that’s where PJ aspires to be, we’re there.

It’s beyond frustrating to me that we are a Power 5 conference team that can’t, and nearly refuses, to throw the football.

On the 3rd and 8 pick by Athan, we’d have been better off running the ball.

When we do throw, it’s a curl or slant. No double moves. No screens. No deep crosses.

Zero trick plays attempted this year, and one jet sweep by Hoskins that lost yardage.

Will things change next season when Mo is gone?

Fleck….we ain’t built right and that’s on you bruh.

Why do I say that? We have a great back in Mo, we have a great defense too. We are exactly what you want us to be. And I hope you finally realize it’s not enough.

So please take your staff on a retreat and rethink your football approach, your model is not enough for us to have a chance to be elite. It’s outdated

If you re-evaluate your approach to football Please get the revelation that we must have a real offense, that allows your QB to be a real QB, that requires our WRs to be real wide receivers. And maybe get some return men that can be explosive in space and not just safe. Maybe we can be somebody. Until then, I’m sorta checked out!

ONE INCREDIBLE POSITIVE ON THE GOPHER FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

Only 53 points given up by the Gophers in 7 HOME games... Those 7 games include 2 shutouts and only 3 points given up in another game. 33 of the 53 points given up in the 2 losses at home so only 20 points given up in the 5 HOME wins. Joe Rossi and staff did a great job of coaching and the defense was stellar in only giving up the points they did, this year.

I might be wrong on this, but in the 5 HOME wins this year, I don't think the first team defense gave up a single TD.

Football ***FLECK POSTGAME: IOWA***

Summarizing what Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck said following the Gophers 13-10 loss to Iowa:

- Fleck says they are disappointed, not discouraged

- Missed a FG in the first half, fumbled to go score, interception to go score...you do that against Iowa, they are going to beat you

- We needed to play better on both sides of the ball earlier

- Thought Ibrahim was phenomenal. One play doesn't define him. He'd give it to him all day.

- Thought they won the trenches, it wasn't even close. Did everything, but win the game.

- Said TE screen hurt them early in the game. Eyes in the wrong spot when they hit the TE down the seam later in the game. Would love to have those plays back.

- Proud of how they overcame an early 10-0 deficit. Proud of the team's effort, just didn't execute enough.

- Thought Kaliakmanis played really well tonight, just wasn't good enough tonight. Made a critical mistake tonight. Not his fault that they lost. They lose and win as a team. He managed the game well, accurate in the first half, got them out of critical situations. He keeps getting better and better everyday.

- Wanted to be patient in this game like they were last week (talking about not going for it on 4th-and-1 in the second quarter).

Football WILL Mo's streak of 100 yard rushing games continue when we play Iowa and Wisconsin??

I do think we are going to have to throw the ball better to give those defenses of Iowa and Wisconsin, something else to think about. Otherwise, I can see them stacking the box against us to eliminate the run. I think this will be an interesting "game within the game" for the next 2 weeks, as to whether Mo Ibrahim will get 100 yards rushing in both games.

PWO ILB commit Zander Rockow

Led Eau Claire Regis to a WI state title today, with 251 rushing yards and 3 TDs in a 41-7 win over Shiocton in Division 7. He scored on a 65-yard run on the first play from scrimmage, and another from 72 yards. Regis finished 14-0 this season. Rockow committed as a PWO at linebacker at the Gophers summer camp after running a 4.49 40, and impressing in individual drills and competition. He apparently led Regis to a state baseball title last spring also. WI offered the day after he committed to MN, but no flip so far. Let's hope that Gophers offering first means he'll stick to his commitment. His measurables are reported as 6'0" or 6'1", 220-240. Possible steal as a PWO.
